Corrected Wage Sheet
MAI-MOU (CW/CE) Rates

It was recently pointed out that a previously distributed wage sheet for his CW/CE's was in error. Please  note that previously distributed wage sheet did not calculate the Health and Welfare rate increase of $0.39 cents into the total package. We apologize for this error. Please see the attached current and correct wage sheets.

L.U. 595 Apprenticeship & ZNEC Updates
Submitted by Byron Benton, Training Director

Journeyman Continuing Education Classes

IBEW Local 595 Journey level members continue to turn out in large numbers for Continuing Education (CE) classes. As of March 2, 2015, the program has received 219 enrollments for the Sp  ring 2015 school semester. We are especially proud of the variety of classes that are available to Local 595 members, with a total of 20 different course listings being offered. Though some courses have reached their maximum capacity, there is still space available in many classes. Anyone interested in signing up for a Continuing Education class may want to first look at our website, www.znecneter.org, before visiting the training center, or by calling 510-351-5282.

Applications

There continues to be tremendous interest in becoming an IBEW Local 595 Inside Wireman Electrician. On January 16, 2015, the Alameda County Electrical Apprenticeship Program took in a record 524 applications. The next step in the application process will be scheduling applicants for an aptitude test based on math and reading comprehension. Individuals who receive a qualifying score on the aptitude test will then advance to the final step, an oral interview before the IBEW-NECA apprenticeship committee.

The "Second Wave" at the ZNE Center

There continues to be great interest in what IBEW and NECA have to offer to move the 21st Century green economy forward. While being interviewed for an upcoming national BOMA conference the question was asked, "What do you mean by the "second wave" of interest IBEW Local 595 and Northern California Chapter, NECA Zero Net Energy Center is experiencing? The following answer was provided. "The first wave of interest in the ZNE Center was one of curiosity. Most guests were interested in the concept of converting an existing commercial building into a highly energy efficient facility that produces as much renewable energy on site each year as it consumes. The second wave of interest are those organizations and groups that now see net zero buildings, both new and retrofits of existing structures, as a reality and are looking to partner with IBEW-NECA in the process."

State Water Rationing
Effective April 15, 2015

California's water conservation effort descends into a fourth year of punishing drought. The administration of Governor Brown has therefore imposed new mandatory water conservation rules that will affect millions of people - from how homeowners water their lawns to how restaurants and hotels serve their guests. The following rules will take effect April 15th, but enforcing the rules, which could carry fines of up to $500, will be left up to local cities, counties and water districts.
  1. Require ALL hotels and motels to provide signs in rooms telling guests that they have the option of choosing not to have towels and linens washed daily.
  2. Ban Californians from watering lawns and landscaping with potable water within 48 hours after measurable rainfall.
  3. Require cities, counties, water districts and private companies to limit lawn watering to two days per week if they are not already limiting lawn and landscape watering to a certain number of days per week.

The rule applies to all 411 water providers with more than 3,000 customers in California, covering more than 95% of the state's population. But there is a loophole: If water providers are already limiting days of the week, even if it is three or more days, they can continue with those rules and not restrict watering to two days a week.
