Electri International Research
Projects Selected

The Electri Council met last week with our own Greg Long taking the helm as Chairman of the Council. Council Chair Greg Long opened the meeting by thanking outgoing Chair, Dan Divane. Greg then welcomed new Council members 3M, Encore Wire, and his own firm, Long Electric. He acknowledged members who have recently upgraded their commitment to ELECTRI, including the Electrical Contractors Trust of Solano & Napa Counties. Electri International focuses on sponsoring research projects relevant to the electrical industry.

Eight research proposals presented were presented by university professors from around the country. The finalists were rated and judged by Council members who ultimately chose to fund two research projects. The first is a study by Ted Garrison entitled How Integrated Project Delivery Impacts Specialty Contractors - The Benefits, Risks and Opportunities. The second project, presented by CalPoly SOL Professor Lonny Simonian covers Electrical Distribution and Construction - Developing an Agile Supply Chain Partnership. Now that the projects have been funded, the researchers will complete their project research and report back to the Electri Council in July. As a reminder, take the time to peruse previous Electri studies for key insights and strategies undertaken to help your business.

Contractor Registration
For Public Works Projects in California

The deadline of March 1, 2015, is approaching quickly. Don't forget to register with the DIR for public works projects in California to meet the requirements of Senate Bill 854. SB 854, establishes a new public works program to replace the Compliance Monitoring Unit and Labor Compliance Program requirements for bond-funded and other public works projects. The new program will cover all public works in the state rather than just selected categories of projects. The application provides agencies that administer public works programs with a searchable database of qualified contractors. Application and renewal are completed online with a non-refundable fee of $300. Read the SB 854 Fact Sheet for a complete list of requirements, as well as Instructions for completing the form.
