Free Change Order Webinar from Electri International 

Now Available to NECA Members  


A webinar will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 2:00-3:00 PM ET to discuss the findings of  report by Matt Syal from Michigan State University Matt completed his research project on Change Order Guidelines for Electrical and Low Voltage Contractors. The main purpose of this ELECTRI project was to develop guidelines and templates that would provide a systematic, standardized, fair process for the pricing of change orders for electrical and low voltage contractors.

Based on the full report, ELECTRI has published a Change Order Guidelines: Quick Reference. This quick reference may be used separately from the report to send to customers with your proposal and/or contract. The intent is to clarify the understanding of guiding principles and impact factors common to change orders.

Don't miss this opportunity to hear directly from the lead investigators, Prof. Matt Syal of Michigan State University. There is no cost to attend, though registration is required for this event. Attendees will utilize audio broadcasting services through their computer speakers. A toll free number will be provided for those unable to utilize this service. Project Excellence Program, W. Creighton Schwan Scholarship, & Marv Jensen Safety Program 


Project Excelllence Award Program - The Northern California Chapter, NECA Member Services Committee is proud to announce its ninth Annual Project Excellence Awards competition. This program was developed to recognize excellence in electrical/technology installations and the NECA contractors responsible for their outstanding achievements. All projects completed during 2014 within the Chapter's jurisdiction (Alameda, Napa, Solano, San Joaquin, Mariposa, Merced, Stanislaus, Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties) are eligible. Projects outside of the Chapters jurisdiction may be considered depending on circumstance, location and complexity. Marv Jensen Safety Award Program - Administered by the NorCal, NECA/IBEW L.U. 595 Joint Safety Committee and sponsored by the Alameda County Labor-Management Cooperation Committee & the San Joaquin & Calaveras Counties Labor-Management Cooperation Committee. This award recognizes excellence in safety for various critera on IBEW/NECA projects. W. Creighton Schwan Scholarship Award - Established in 2007 by the Northern California Chapter, National Electrical Contractors Association Codes and Standards Committee in memory of the late W. Creighton Schwan who dedicated his life to the electrical industry.  Students must meet the following criteria:
  • Currently enrolled in a college program at a vocational college, community college, or university with a focus in construction management for the electrical industry, electrical engineering, or electrical inspection
  • Educational institution must be located in one of the following counties, which represent the Northern California Chapter, NECA jurisdiction: Alameda, Calaveras, Mariposa, Merced, Napa, San Joaquin, Solano, Stanislaus, or Tuolumne
  • Demonstrated determination to better him/her self through education
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident status
  • Demonstrated community service

NECA District XI 

Registration Open!  

 

Registration is now open for the upcoming NECA District IX meeting fromJuly 9-10,2015, in Laguna Beach, California. Set on an oceanfront bluff with panoramas of the Pacific Ocean, the Montage Laguna Beach is the official NECA lodging for this event. The attached registration brochure includes the itinerary, lodging and golf (optional) information. If you plan to attend, please complete the registration and payment information and return to me as soon as possible. Your company education funds  for 2015 are eligible for reimbursement towards this NECA meeting. 

 

Early registration is recommended, as it is likely the group block will sell out before the final reservation date of June 1st. The hotel is about a 30-minute drive from John Wayne International airport. Drive time from either LAX or San Diego Inter  national airports is about 1-1/2 hours. From John Wayne International Airport (Orange County) 30-40 minutes. Should you have further questions about transportation or registration, please contact Julie Russell.

 

Register for the ASA General Contractor Expo 

Reminder 


The Bay Area Chapter of the American Subcontractors Association General Contractor Expo is next week...January 27th. AGC of America Chief Economist Ken Simonson will address the group on economic news relevant to the construction industry. The event is being held at the ZNE Center in San Leandro, and NECA contractors are encouraged to attend at the member rate of $75. Contact  Darlene Besst at the Chapter office with any questions, or simply register here.

 

684 Wage Increase 

New Rates Effective January 1 


The membership of Local Union 684 has allocated its $0.65 increase effective January 1, 2015, as follows:  

  • $0.40 to health & welfare
  • $0.20 to Pension B
  • $0.05 to training

Mechanics Lein Law - Thursday, February 12, 2015, from 9:00AM - 12:00PM, at the Chapter Office. The cost is $200.00 for NorCal NECA members, $300.00 non-members.  Don't forget, 2015 Education Funds can be used.
