Safety Poster Contest
At the 595 Picnic

Our Annual Safety Poster contest was held during the Annual IBEW Local 595 picnic on August 9, 2014.  This year we had 66 entries in four age categories.  This years winners are:  Samuel Kan (age 6 and under), Vinny Bonato (ages 7-12), Maximillian Aguilera (ages 13-17), and Danny Chaichautda age 18+.  With over 500 in attendance this annual event is one that is anticipated each year.  Special thanks to all who participated in the safety poster contest.  The 2015 IBEW/NECA Joint Safety Committee Calendars will be ready for distribution later this year.

Northern California Facilities Expo
September 24-25, 2014

The Northern California Facilities Expo is coming soon to the Santa Clara Convention Center.  Click here for details.  On September 24th, 9:35 AM to 10:35 AM, Byron Benton and the Zero Net Energy Center team will conduct a seminar on "Retrofitting a Building for Zero Net Energy - the ZNE Center's Success Story."  In addition, NECA and IBEW will participate with a booth on the expo floor.  Contractors are encouraged to join us at our booth with your marketing materials for an opportunity to meet one-on-one with facilities decision-makers and let them hear from you current industry trends and energy efficiency upgrades to help them save money.  Attendance is free!  Take advantage of the opportunity for a positive impact on your business.  Contact Darlene Besst if you plan to attend or have questions.

Workers' Compensation Compliance Act
Change to California Worker's Comp New Hire Pamphlets

Employers must supply new hires with a revised "Facts About Worker's Compensation" pamphlet at the time of hire or by the end of the first pay period to stay in compliance with California Law.  California has revised the pamphlet and the pre-designation of physician/chiropractor forms contained within.  The new version of the pamphlets became  effective on July 1, 2014.  Pamphlets can be purchased by visiting California Workers Compensation Institute

Fall General Member Meeting
Hurry and RSVP

The Northern California Chapter's Fall General Member meeting is coming soon on Tuesday, September 9th.  This year's event will be held at the Palm Event Center in Pleasanton, 1184 Vineyard Ave.  The evening's reception will begin at 6 PM with hosted hors d'oeuvres and beverages.  Along with networking and our popular raffle prize drawing, we will also recognize Chapter contractors and their team members for excellence in construction.   Also, this year the joint Safety Committee will present the Marv Jensen Safety Award designed to recognize excellence in safety demonstrated by NECA contractors and IBEW electricians.  We hope that you will join us as for a fun evening of networking, dinner and celebration.  Fill out the RSVP soon and email to Juanita at the Chapter Office.

NorCal NECA Donations to Charities
From the 12th Annual Golf Classic

Last week, proceeds from the Chapter's annual golf tournament held in May were distributed to various charities within the Chapter's jurisdiction.  Kurt Brinkman, Ruben Perez, and Darlene Besst presented a $5,000 check to the Attitudinal Healing Connection in Oakland, the Aldea Children & Family Services in Napa, and Modesto Gospel Mission in Modesto.  Each of us were honored to present the check and learn more about these very worthwhile charities.
