The Museum, and the community, lost a dear friend and advocate last month.  Jeanne Haigis-Pedler,
who had been very active in the formation of the Heritage Coalition, had again been involved in Museum work for the past year.  She took on the most difficult projects and accomplished them with skill and tenacity. Anytime I am tempted to stray from the 'proper process', I hear her voice in my head and toe the line. She was a fascinating person and I am honored to have known her.  She will be missed.

Lots going on this month, as always.  Please mark your calendars for the Founders' Day Fair August 30th. This year there is a raffle. Tickets are available now at the Museum.  Stop by to see a complete list of items.

Please share this newsletter with those who may be interested, and with those who may not even know we exist!  Word of Mouth is our best publicity, so hit that forward button for us, and spread the word!

Sincerely - Rebecca Suddeth, Executive Director

The 6th Annual Founders Day Fair will be held Saturday, August 30, 10 am - 4 pm, on the grounds of the Transylvania Heritage Museum on West Main Street.  We will have craft sales and demonstrations, musicians and dancers, as well as a Civil War encampment. Food and baked items will be for sale. The Museum will feature Family History displays as well as the current "Healing Hands" medical exhibit.

With the entertainment, food, and living history, we expect to have a wonderful day!  Bring a chair and join us under the shade of the Chestnut tree.
Burlingame
2014 Drive for History

The Museum is excited to announce the second annual Drive For History Golf Tournament at Burlingame  to be held Friday, September 5th. Tee time will be 1 pm. Burlingame will provide food after play.

Captain's Choice, a 4-man team is $400.

Each registered player will be entered into the drawings for door prizes, and 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will be given.  Thanks to Egolf there will be a hole in one prize of a new car!

This is an excellent opportunity to play a private course, and raise money for the Museum at the same time.  Please contact Rebecca Suddeth for sponsorship opportunities or more information about registering a team.

Students Visit Museum
The Museum is hosting visits each Tuesday afternoon in July for the Rise and Shine Freedom School. Students are sharpening their detective skills by examining historical artifacts from different time periods.
Can You Guess?

Do you know what it is? Send your answer here!  Last time, the mystery item was a trephine, a saw for removing a disk of bone, chiefly from the skull.  Thanks John P. Lollis for your fast response!
