December  2013
Issue No. 8
Header
Greetings!

As 2013 comes to a close, it is hard not to think back and reflect on all that has come to pass.  Someone recently said to me "I think when you look back, you will see 2013 as a turning point."  I already see it that way.

I would like to especially thank our Fund Development Committee, chaired by Tony Morrow, for their diligence and hard work this year.  It is their efforts that have brought us to this place.

Please share this newsletter with those who may be interested, and with those who may not even know we exist!  Word of Mouth is our best publicity, so hit that forward button for us, and spread the word!

Sincerely - Rebecca Suddeth, Executive Director
Christmas Exhibit

The Aluminum Tree & Aesthetically Challenged Seasonal Ornament Museum and Research Center (ATOM), has loaned the Heritage Museum dozens of vintage aluminum trees for this Christmas Season.  Aluminum trees, manufactured by over forty companies in the USA, Canada and even Australia, along with hundreds of ornaments, ranging from handmade and hideous to classically kitsch-y, will be on display from December 7th until the Museum closes for the season on December 21st.

Be sure to spread the news about this display and drop by for a wacky and wonderful trip down memory lane.  Many thanks to Stephen Jackson for providing these items for our display.

Christmas Tree Extravaganza at College Walk

College Walk, a proud sponsor of the Museum, will hold a holiday event on Tuesday, December 10th from 11 am until 7 pm.  Embrace the magic of the season with holiday music, carolers, hot apple cider and gingerbread cookies.  Come stroll through our community to admire our beautifully decorated trees and holiday cheer.  For more information and a schedule of special entertainment, click here.

December Renewals

The Transylvania  Heritage Museum over the past year has moved to a twice a year renewal date for memberships.  Memberships either expire in December or in June, depending upon when a person joins. Anyone who joined the membership between August and December of 2012 will be due for renewal at the end of December.  A mailing will be sent out, so watch your mail and please continue to support the Museum as we strive to Connect Community, History & Life!

Brevard College Volunteers

Last month, we were fortunate enough to have two students complete service projects at the Museum. Again, we are recipients of student volunteers!  This time the students are college students, volunteering on an ongoing basis and accomplishing much.

Stephen Olson and Bethany Shaw have been working under the direction of Jeanne Haigis-Pedler with artifacts and collections management.  The progress has been amazing.   The entire Treasure Room Trolley System has been revamped and more efficiently organized. We very much appreciate the efforts of our volunteers and especially enjoy having the younger generation involved in preserving history.
