May 2013
Issue No 2
Header
Greetings!

Once I started this issue, I realized there was far too much going on to include it all!  I like to keep the Notes concise to respect everyone's time, but this month I can't help but make it a bit long!

The current exhibit "The Secret Life of a Museum" will be on display until May 18th, so if you haven't seen it, be sure to stop by before then.

Please share this newsletter with those who may be interested, and with those who may not even know we exist!  Word of Mouth is our best publicity, so hit that forward button for us, and spread the word!

Sincerely - Rebecca Suddeth, Executive Director

The White Squirrel Festival

A lot will be happening in Brevard during the White Squirrel Festival on May 25th.  Due to recent cut backs, the Heart of Brevard festivites end the block before the Museum, but plenty will be going on at the Museum, so take the time to come visit us.

We will unveil our new exhibit "A River Runs Through It." This exhibit will chronicle the waterways that criss-cross our fair county and shape its past and influence its future.  Come learn about Davidson River, East Fork, Catheys Creek and of course, the mighty French Broad, the third oldest river in the world!

Be a 'History Nut' and sign up for one of the Museum's two 'On the Hunt of the White Squirrel' walking tours.  Groups will be no more than a dozen, so sign up early!  The cost is $15 per person and the tour will take about an hour.

There will also be an Antique Car Show at the Museum that day.  See the article below for more details!

Antique Car Show

The Hoodlum Cruisers are partnering with the Museum to provide antique cars on our property from 11 am until 3 pm during the White Squirrel Festival on May 25th.  We are accepting door prizes to be given away during that time to our participants.  Please drop any prizes by the Museum between now and May 23rd!

Children's Garden receives Grant
April planting day

The Museum is very pleased to announce that the Children's Garden program was awarded $500.00 from Walmart in Pisgah Forest.  The grant was received through their local giving program and will provide gardening supplies and teaching materials.

Or select a primitive, framed, colored pencil drawing of a local building, starting at $15.00.

Exhibit Installed

The Transylvania Heritage Museum installed "Living Off The Land" in the county offices in April.  The exhibit traces the economic history of the county and is on display in the hall outside the Regiister of Deeds Office.  Go by and take a look!

Thanks to our exhibit team-Yvonne Dickson, Sarah Lutz and Marcy Thompson-for working during their lunch hour to make this happen!
