June, 2015
Better Weather Ahead

In the last issue, I mentioned that May would be a bit of a rough month, astrologically. I marked a period of 40 days, during which Mars and Saturn were in an opposition. That period ends on June 15th.   To complicate matters, Mercury has also been retrograde for the past three weeks. It turns direct on June 11th. That's astrology talk for better astrol0gical weather ahead.

To add a very positive note to all of this. On May 30th, Venus entered Cancer.  Since Jupiter is already transiting Cancer, this means that Venus and Jupiter will be in a conjunction for the entire month of June. This conjunction will become more and more intense until it becomes exact on July 1st.

What does this mean? Venus is the planet of love, affection, pleasure, enjoyment, and all things creative. Jupiter is the planet of expansion, abundance, good luck, and everything uplifting and positive. Put them together and you get a recipe for  enjoyment, recreation, socializing, creativity, and a pinch of good old self indulgence.   That makes June a good time to relax, travel, get together with friends, go to parties, buy a car, buy a house, or any number of other pleasant and positive activities.   On the other hand, since Mars, Saturn and Mercury are still in the picture until mid June, the best part of the month is after the 15th.

That said, this conjunction will affect each person's horoscope differently, depending on the house it transits in your chart. Here's a brief hint at the areas of life in which you might feel a little boost as the month of June progresses.  The predictions  given below are based on your birth date.  Please read them carefully and remember that the Vedic zodiac is different than the Western zodiac, so the date ranges for the signs are different.

Sun Signs:

Apr 14 - May 14 (Aries) Fourth house - This is a good time for beautifying your home, socializing, purchasing a car, or visiting your mom.

May 15 - Jun 14 (Taurus) Third house - During this period your communication experiences will be pleasant and warm. This is a good time to travel and a good time to connect with your brothers or sisters.

Jun 15 - Jul 15 (Gemini)   Second house - This period is generally good for finances, but might give you the inclination to purchase something expensive or of high quality. This is a great time for interactions with family members and it gives you the tendency to eat better food, or simply to dine at more expensive restaurants.

Jul 16 - Aug 16 (Cancer) First house- During this period you will be more charismatic, social, charming and attractive. This is a good time to do anything that improves your appearance as well.

Aug 17 -  Sep 16 (Leo) Twelfth house - During this time, you might have the desire to travel. If so, the travel will be quite pleasurable. This is also a good time for retreats, meditation, and reflection. You will probably spend money on positive and enjoyable items.

Sep 17 - Oct 16 (Virgo) Eleventh house - This is a great time for family gatherings, parties, getting together with friends, and all things social. This period also promotes finances.

Oct 17 - Nov 15 (Libra) Tenth house - During this period, you will enjoy your work. You might get involved with projects that are more creative or which involve aesthetic elements.

Nov 16 - Dec 15 (Scorpio) Ninth house - This is a great time to travel. This period also promotes education, teachers and is great for experiences related to your father.

Dec 16 - Jan 13 (Sagittarius) Eighth house - This is a good period for money related to partnership, or money from sources other than your paycheck, like clients, contracts, insurance or inheritance. It also can promote interactions with your partners family. It's a good time to travel with your partner as well.

Jan 14 - Feb 12 (Capricorn) Seventh house - If you aren't already in a relationship, this period could produce an attraction. You might meet someone or date more. If you are already in a relationship, this period will make things more loving and positive with your partner.

Feb 13 - Mar 13 (Aquarius) Sixth house - During this period you might add some positive elements to your health routine or diet. This is also a good time for your father's work, your mother's siblings, your younger brother's home, your bosses father, and for you, the period will definitely improve as the month progresses.

Mar 14 - Apr 13 (Pisces) Fifth house - If you have children, this period will bring enjoyable experiences and positive interaction. Maybe this is the time for that trip to Disneyland! Otherwise, this is a good time for creative projects and it could also improve the romantic side of your life.

A May Retro-spective

I am always interested in the way that astrological influences play out in real life. If you read last month's installment, you might remember me saying that the period from May 4th to June 10th would be more prone to violence world-wide, due to an opposition of Mars and Saturn that was taking place during that time. I also mentioned that the most intense part of the influence would be the exact opposition which would take place on May 15th, and that the influence would diminish after that and finally end June 10th.

In fact, May did turn out to be a tense month, with terrorist events and war surging in different parts of the world throughout the month. The most notable event, however, was the takeover of Palmyra, Syria by ISIS, an event that took place exactly on the 15th.

This event was significant because it became the focal point of a great deal of press that emphasized how powerful ISIS has become and how it is much more of a force to be reckoned with than previously thought.

There were a number of other events that took place during the Saturn/Mars conjunction. One of the most notable was the stormy weather and flooding in Texas.  The state was inundated, as a number of huge storms battered the entire region. Out of curiosity. I checked the chart to see what was up.

The Texas chart is set for December 29,1845, at midnight, the exact moment when Texas became a state. Texas is currently passing through Rahu/Moon period. The Moon is placed in the fourth house (the land, the environment in general) of the chart. It is also placed in a nakshatra called Purva Phalguni, ruled by the god of water (Apas) from Hindu mythology. At the time of the storms, transiting Pluto (signifying upheavals and changes) was exactly conjuncting the Natal Moon in the Texas chart. The Saturn/Mars opposition simply added insult to injury, triggering the events.

Japan also had a huge earthquake during May. This one, I predicted in advance, during the World Predictions Presentation, given at the East West Bookstore, in Mountain View, California, in both January of 2013 and January of 2014.

Like the Texas chart, the Japanese chart was already ripe for such an event.  Here is the slide that I presented in my lecture in January of 2014 with the list of predictions for Japan during  the Mars sub period.

The Japanese are currently running the major period of Mercury and the sub period of Mars.  Mars, the sub period ruler is placed in the 11th house, a house related to earth quakes. The sub period of Mars is running from June 12, 2014 to June 9, 2015. I had almost given up on this prediction since the sub period is almost over.   Then, on May 30th, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake took place off the coast of Japan.   Luckily, it was deep in the ocean and did not create too much damage.   Sometimes, influences that seem indicated in a horoscope remain dormant until transiting planets trigger them. In this case, one of the planets involved in the opposition, Mars, which is also the sub period ruler, became the trigger.

Astrology in the Sierras 2015
Upaya and Artha

Join us in Nevada City, CA for this six day California Sierras Jyotish intensive.

This intensive is in two parts.

Part 1 will focus on the areas of finances and career.  In the process, you will become more grounded in the fundamentals of chart analysis, as well as the use of dasha and transit techniques for prediction.  The area of Artha (the material aspect of life) is an important part of life.  These areas of life can be the source of great distress and confusion for many people, especially in our current economic climate.  Even if you are a yogi, who never thinks about money or career, you will want to take this class.  We will go much deeper than simply analyzing the chart in a mechanical way.  We will get to the core of the chart and understand the dharmic aspect of this desire.

Part 2 will focus on remedial measures.  I will be showing you how to use gemstones, mantras, yagyas, donations, fasting and other remedial techniques.  In addition, I will show you how to bring these practices out of the realm of superstition and use them in a manner that actually makes a connection for both you and your clients.  The goal of this aspect of the class is to help each student develop more confidence when recommending remedies, while at the same time, learning to apply remedial techniques  in a way that harmonizes with each individual client as well as with modern life.

As with all of my classes, the orientation of this class is towards doing actual readings.   My philosophy of teaching is that you learn astrology by doing astrology, not by talking about astrology.  The Sierra mountains will provide an excellent environment for a total-immersion experience in this ancient art.
