Mars in Scorpio

If you have been wondering why the world has been roiling with tension and conflict in the last few months, look no further than the disposition of Mars. Mars is the planet of desire, ambition, aggression, and warfare.

In the last couple of months, it has been in a conjunction with Saturn. That conjunction became exact on August 25th. In last month's newsletter, I describe how this conjunction creates an increase of tension, frustration, violence and conflict world-wide. If you have any doubts about this, just do a brief review of the top news stories that took place during the week on either side of August 25th. Besides the tragic beheading of reporter, James Foley, the situation with ISIS has escalated; the US has sent war planes to strike at the Islamic State; the EU has agreed to draw up sanctions against Russia, as clashes in Ukraine have escalated; the situation in Israel continues to bring flashes of violence; and new sanctions on Iran show a deterioration in negotiations and general diplomatic breakdown. While all of that has been going on, within 24 hours of the Mars/Saturn conjunction, and within the 21 day period predicted in my World Predictions 2014 presentation given in January of 2014, the worst earthquake in recent years caused $1 billion in damages in Napa, California.

Now Mars and Saturn are separating and on September 5th, Mars will enter Scorpio. It will stay there from September 5th to October 17, 2014. Since Mars owns the sign of Scorpio, this is a very empowering transit for Mars, for Scorpio, and for whatever Scorpio signifies in your individual chart.

For the USA chart, Mars is the period ruler, so this transit suggests a move from a place of frustration (the conjunction with Saturn) to a place of more confidence and more willingness to assert power. Scorpio falls in the 12th house, signifying foreign countries, in the USA chart. So this transit may impel the USA to assert their will and flex their assertive muscles in foreign places in a more pronounced way during the transit.

For individuals, this is a transit that is generally good for being more assertive, beginning new projects, and creating positive changes in your life. Mars rules over ambitious energy, so this transit favors various ambitious pursuits and undertakings. Mars also symbolized the muscles of the body, so it is a great time to get back into or simply reemphasize your exercise routines.

In any case, this transit is quite positive and should bring relief from frustrations that have been building up over the summer.

Mars in Scorpio for You

Here is an interpretation of how Mars in Scorpio will affect you during the period from September 5 - October 17, 2014. Remember to look carefully at the dates allotted to the Sun Signs. In Vedic astrology we use a different zodiac so the dates are different from those in the newspaper. If you know your Moon sign or Lagna (rising sign) then you can also read the interpretations for those signs.

Vedic Sun Signs

Apr 14 - May 14 (Aries) This is a good time for money that is related to partnership or money that comes from outside sources. This would be a great time to get into yoga, stretching, or exercise in general.

May 15 - Jun 14 (Taurus) During this period, your partner might be in a power-mode, directing and wanting to be in charge. If you are not in a relationship, this is a time that could bring attractions. On the negative side, avoid power struggles with others and take it easy in communications.

Jun 15 - Jul 15 (Gemini) This is a good time for competitive energy and ambitious projects. This is also a great time to get into your exercise routines. This period also promotes employment, so if you are looking for work, you might find something. If you are already employed, this could help you be more effective in your work.

Jul 16 - Aug 16 (Cancer) This is a great transit for your career and for ambitious projects in general. It's also a great time for educational pursuits, creative projects and for children.

Aug 17 - Sep 16 (Leo) During this period you might have the desire to make positive changes in your environment. You could just change the furniture around, or you might even have the desire to change your residence. This period is good for travel as well. It also favors education and parents.

Sep 17 - Oct 16 (Virgo) You will probably find yourself doing lots of errands and getting involved with lots of little projects during this period. Your communication with others could take on a quality of "pressing to make things happen". You won't take no for an answer, which could be positive or negative, depending on how you use the transit. In any case this is a very effective period for getting things done and making the wheels turn.

Oct 17 - Nov 15 (Libra) During this period you will gain support for finance. Part of that support might come from partners, the spouse or other people in general. This is a great period for pursuing your financial and career aspirations.

Nov 16- Dec 15 (Scorpio) This Mars transit will bring a good deal of ambitious energy and could increase your general energy level. It can also increase pitta (fire or heat) in your body. You can best take advantage of this transit by staying on your diet and exercise routines, and by staying busy and industrious.

Dec 16 - Jan 13 (Sagittarius) Mars is passing through your 12th house (like in the USA chart). This period could give you the desire to travel. It is also a great time for doing physically oriented meditation techniques like Tai Chi, Chi Kong, or yoga. If you are married or in a relationship, your partner might become more industrious or possibly more interested in his/her health.

Jan 14 - Feb 12 (Capricorn) During this period Mars will cross your 11th house. Here it will support the process of actualizing your desires. That means this is a great time for finishing projects and achieving goals. This transit favors money and financial gains in general. It may also motivate you to spend time with friends or with groups.

Feb 13 - Mar 13 (Aquarius) Mars will be passing through your 10th house, the house of career. This will be a good time for supporting your ambitious pursuits and career activities, so take advantage of this period. If you are looking for job, this period gets high marks as a possible time to get one. If you already have a job, then this is a time for your work to go well or to improve.

Mar 14 - Apr 13 (Pisces) Mars will be passing through your 9th house. This is a good time for travel and it is also good for anything related to education. During this period you can also access good teachers and advisers. This is also a very good transit for finances.

Mercury, Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter

From an astrological perspective, something pretty amazing is happening in September. Mercury, Mars, Saturn and Jupiter will all be transiting in signs where they obtain great strength. Mercury will be in Virgo, the sign it rules, from September 1 -20. Mars will enter Scorpio, the sign it rules, on September 5th and stay there until October 17th. Saturn will be in Libra, its sign of exaltation, throughout September, leaving on November 2nd, and Jupiter will be in its exaltation sign, Cancer, throughout September until July, 2015. So the overlap, where all of these planet will be in signs of strength, will be from September 5-20.

Now this doesn't mean that, all of a sudden, the heavens will open up, and that all problems on earth will be solved. On the other hand, it is a very good period for all of the things ruled by these planets. And since these planets rule over about 80 percent of everything you can think of, this translates as a generally great period to begin most things.

It also means that this period will produce births of extremely strong and generally fortunate children, many of whom will grow up to be great men and great women. Most of them will have at least one Mahapurusha Yoga in their horoscopes. A Mahapurusha is a "great man" or woman. A yoga is a combination, so this period will produce children who become scholars, advisers, teachers, professionals, leaders and great intellectuals.
