Mars Conjunct Saturn
July 14 - September 3, 2014
In case you were wondering why the world seems to be in such a state of pandemonium right now, there are actually a couple of things that have been going on. Rahu and Saturn have just separated from their 18 month conjunction in Libra. But on the exact day that Rahu exited Libra, Mars re-entered Libra where it will be conjuncting Saturn until September 3rd. The exact conjunction takes place on August 24th.
For the world, this means a continuation of conflicts and violence in the various political hotspots. For example, Israel and Palestine continue to slug it out. It is interesting to look at the charts of these two countries.
First, In the Israeli chart, Mars and Saturn are on transiting the ascendant, giving them the tendency to take aggressive action. They are currently in the sub period of Venus. Venus is in Ardra nakshatra, ruled by Rudra, the god of wrath who hurls thunderbolts.

The Major period is that of the Moon, but the Israelis are quickly moving towards the Major period of Mars, starting in 2015. Mars is the planet of war and aggression.
Coming to the end of a major period and getting close to a new major period is like traveling. Let's say that I am traveling in the United States and I am on my way to Mexico. As I get to Southern California for example, it starts to look very much like Mexico. I may not be in Mexico yet, but I can feel the Aura of Mexico spilling over the border. Like that, as Israel gets closer to the Mars period they feel the need to become more aggressive and assertive.
At this point, let me digress for a moment and give my disclaimer. I have no political agendas when I talk about countries astrologically. My job is to describe, not to judge. OK? So if you are Israeli or if you are Palestinian, don't take any of this personally. I wish you both well.
The Palestinian chart, on the other hand, is very interesting. They have a Cancer ascendant, with the ruler of the ascendant, the Moon, in Shatabhisha nakshatra, in the 8th house. Shatabhisha is called the veiling star because it makes things hard to see. If the Palestinian chart was the chart of a person, that person would seem unrecognized and unappreciated. Sound familiar?
Shatabhisha is also a nakshatra that causes addiction and obsession, usually due to a strong attachment to an idea or a program about how things are supposed to be. Sometimes it causes the person (or country) to cling on to that idea at any cost, becoming the source of their own demise. If they want to avoid suffering, the Palestinians will have to let go of the ideal concept, and negotiate a good business deal that works practically, but is devoid of emotion.
Unfortunately, the Palestinians also have a very emotional chart, so as a group, they tend to react from emotion and find it difficult to be detached and pragmatic.
That said, the Palestinians are in the major period of Jupiter right now. Jupiter is placed in the middle drekkana of Libra, symbolized by a man who is holding a pot that is about to fall. That man is worried about his home and his family. From March of 2014 to February of 2015, they are in the Ketu sub period. Ketu is in Krittika, which is a nakshatra related to war. Krittika is ruled by Agni, deified fire, who seduced six out of the seven wives of seven saints. The six wives, collectively gave birth to the god of war.
To add insult to injury, Ketu has changed signs recently, and for the Palestinians, this puts it in the sign occupied by their natal Mars for the next several months. This conjunction with natal Mars culminates in December of 2014. Additionally, transiting Mars will be aspecting the conjunction from October 19th to November 26, 2014, becoming very aggravating in the 4 days surrounding November 19th. So the end of the year, especially November and December, seems to be increasingly volatile for the Palestinians.
What to do? All we can do is simply watch and hope and pray for a ray of sanity.

Ketu in Pisces
July 13, 2014 - January 8, 2016
Last month I wrote about Rahu's transit of Virgo. This month I am writing about Rahu's counterpart, Ketu and it's simultaneous transit of Pisces.
Ketu is the South node of the Moon, it is the planet of Moksha, liberation and all things spiritual. It is also a great healing planet. It brings detachment and, when you are really tuning in to Ketu, it brings bliss.
Ever had a quite moment where you were feeling still and just enjoying the silence? That's Ketu. How about a Zen moment while working in your garden, when you felt the simple joy of being outside with your plants and the birds? That is also Ketu's energy.
In Ketu's world there is no time and no relativity. Ketu doesn't make plans. It travels without an itinerary. The great Indian mystic Nisargadatta, who I met in 1980 in Bombay, put it this way. "Everybody wants what they don't have. Nobody wants what they do have. That's backward. Want what you have. Don't want what you don't have. You will be happy!" When he said this. He was speaking Ketu's message.
On the negative level, if you haven't learned the lessons of detachment and being in the moment, then Ketu can bring disappointment, chronic dissatisfaction, and even depression. Wherever it is placed in your natal chart you are being challenged to let go of attachment. This area of life will also be an area of life that you use as a vehicle for spiritual development.
The same is true with Ketu's transit in Pisces. Whatever the house Ketu is transiting in your chart during this period, will either bring you a desire to find inspiration, or it will become the source of some dissatisfaction. You are being asked to let go of attachment, while at the same time, being offered the possibility of joy.

Ketu in Pisces for You
Here is an interpretation of how Ketu in Pisces will affect you during the period from July 13, 2014 - January 8, 2016. Remember to look carefully at the dates allotted to the Sun Signs. In Vedic astrology we use a different zodiac so the dates are different from those in the newspaper. If you know your Moon sign or Lagna (rising sign) then you can also read the interpretations for those signs.
