Rahu and Ketu are called the shadow planets. That's because they are not actually planets, but are associated with the shadows that make eclipses happen. As a result, they are related to the shadow part of the psyche, and are commonly misunderstood to be the cause of many problems in life. Yet Rahu and Ketu have an amazing and wonderful side to them. If you tune in to what these two shadows have to offer, the results can be unbelievable. In this class Jim will help you understand Rahu and Ketu more clearly, as well as how to work with them in your life. This can be especially helpful if you are going through a Rahu period or sub period, or if you are suffering due to a difficult transit of Rahu or Ketu.
This class is oriented towards beginners and non astrologers. All are welcome, but the class is intended for the average person who is not intending to become a practicing astrologer. Nevertheless, no matter what your level of astrological savvy, if you have mainly thought of Rahu or Ketu as predominantly negative influences, then you should definitely take this class.

Venus Retrograde
December 22, 2013 - January 31, 2014
On December 22nd, Venus began its retrograde motion in Uttara Ashadha Nakshatra which is located in the beginning of the sign of Capricorn. It will remain retrograde for the remainder of the month of January.
In general, this period is good for refining and perfecting things that are related to Venus. Venus signifies love, relationships, partnerships, pleasure, creativity, enjoyment, beauty, art, creativity, the face, food, the mouth, and the eyes.  So any of these things are likely candidates for remodeling, reviewing, transforming and perfecting. For example, this period is not particularly good for starting a new art project, but it is a great period for fixing and perfecting one that has already been started. Similarly, it is not a great period for getting married, but it is a good time for marriage and family counseling.
Between December 22 and January 11th, Venus will be passing through Uttara Ashadha nakshatra which is symbolized by the tusk of an elephant and is related to Ganesh, the remover of obstacles. This is a good time for editing writing projects. That's because Ganesh's tusk was used as a pen to write the Mahabharata. This period is also especially good for dental work, since the teeth are symbolized by the tusk. It is a good period for removing obstacles in any Venus-oriented activity.
On January 11th, Venus moves to Purva Ashadha nakshatra, which is located in the sign of Sagittarius, where it remains for the rest of the month of January. Since the shakti of this nakshatra is the power to energize, this becomes a good time to breath new life into relationships, creative projects, and all other things ruled by Venus. The symbol of this nakshatra is a winnowing basket, the basket used to sort the wheat from the chaff in the husking process. So this is a good time to get rid of unwanted emotional baggage, or simply a good time for cleaning out your house and taking things to the Goodwill.
In any case, Venus retrograde sounds like it could be very useful for supporting your new years resolution! Happy New Year!

Join us in Nevada City at the Ananda Retreat Center for this six day Sierra Mountain Jyotish intensive. The class will focus on the art of making predictions, and I will show you how to predict in the areas of career, money, health, and relationships. In the process you will become more grounded in the fundamentals of chart analysis, as well as the use of Dasha and transit techniques.
One of the interesting features of this class will be a module on Palmistry. Each day, I will devote one hour to this subject, showing you how to analyze the palm and how to use it in your practice. The goal of this portion of the class is to help students to immediately get started using the palm to make predictions while doing readings.
As with all of my classes, the orientation of this class is towards doing actual readings. My philosophy of teaching is that you learn astrology by doing astrology, not by talking about astrology. The Ananda retreat center is a beautiful facility in the foothills of the Tahoe Sierras and will provide an excellent environment for a total immersion experience in this ancient art.
