Fairfax Cares

Our Fairfax Cares Event is just a few weeks away! We are so happy to announce we have raised the needed funds to make this dream a reality. We would like to thank our sponsors below for their support.

We are totally SOLD OUT with volunteers for April 30th to pack meals. We are looking for help to set up on Friday, April 29th from 6-8:30 at Lanier MS. Students will get service hours! This is a great team building opportunity for local companies, scouts, groups or teams with their parents. We welcome anyone over 13 willing to help. Volunteers will also be treated for dinner from the wonderful Freddy's Steakburgers of Fairfax. If you would like to volunteer for Friday, April 29th please contact Carrie Dorsey

A Letter from Chairman Toby Sorensen
 Dear City of Fairfax Community,

At the beginning of every calendar year, the City School Board receives "State of the the School" reports from our four city principals and their staff. If you get an opportunity, watch these reports and the Spotlight on Learning that showcases the work of teachers and students. You will be amazed at what our students are doing and how hard the staff works to plan their programs and meet the educational needs of all. It is a wonderful way to stay connected with the four schools in our pyramid.

All are invited to attend the Student Panel on Monday, April 25 (7 p.m. in the Fairfax High School library). This is when we directly hear from middle and high school students in a panel discussion. It is always so interesting to hear from our kids in person. Please join us!

Fairfax HS Principal Delivers State of the School; "We are in a period of glory days"

Fairfax High School Principal Dave Goldfarb delivered his annual state of the school report to the City School Board on Monday, April 4th. Welcoming more than 2400 students coming from 93 countries and speaking over 65 different languages, Fairfax High School is recognized by US News & World Report as one of the top ten high schools in the state.

Discussing topics such as the later start times, Project Aware, a wellness project directed at supporting students and changes in the grading policy, Principal Goldfarb presented a thorough overview of the high school in the 2015-2016 school year.

To see the entire presentation, please go to the City of Fairfax website and click on 2016 for the archived video. For information on State of the School reports from our three other City schools, please see below.

Please join us for our Annual Student Panel!
It is our favorite night of the year! Please join us on Monday, April 25th at 7:00 pm in the Fairfax High School Library for our annual student panel. Our panel of 7-12 grade students tell the City of Fairfax School Board their thoughts and opinions about the everyday life of a student in the City of Fairfax Schools. Parents, if you have rising Lanier or Fairfax High students this is a great night to learn lessons about course selection, afterschool programs, study habits and tips for thriving in middle and high school. Everyone is welcome to watch. Pre-registration is not needed, but encouraged. Please email Carrie Dorsey at carrie.dorsey@fairfaxva.gov to let us know you plan to attend.
