From our partners at FCPS:

FCPS Budget Tool

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is using an extensive community engagement process in the development of the FY 2017 budget.  Because projected costs for items such as enrollment growth, state mandated retirement, health insurance costs, and employee salary increases are increasing more than projected revenues, FCPS anticipates a significant budget shortfall for school year 2016-17 (FY 2017). To balance the budget, FCPS may have to cut, reduce, or redesign current programs.

As part of the budget process, ideas on what to cut, reduce, or redesign as well as how to increase revenue through fees have been developed by the Budget Task Force with input from the community. FCPS invited stakeholders to submit budget suggestions through the FCPS website this summer, and is now asking for their ideas on how to address the projected budget shortfall.

The Budget Proposal Tool is an online way for stakeholders to provide their recommendations for how to address the projected deficit that FCPS is facing in FY 2017. FCPS is gathering proposals for two different deficit amounts:  $50 million and $75 million. The shortfall contains uncertainty because there are costs and funding that are not determined until later in the budget process.

This is a great way for City of Fairfax residents to have their voice heard. Please take some time to visit the Budget Proposal Tool.

FHS Crew Club Needs Rowing Coaches

Fairfax High School Crew Club is seeking rowing coaches to expand its coaching staff to accommodate a growing roster. Coaches would primarily work with JV and novice athletes. Ideally coaches will be available to work with athletes through winter training and the spring racing season, but we can be flexible with your situation. Salary is competitive for the area and is commensurate with experience both competing and coaching.

Fairfax Crew runs winter conditioning each day at Fairfax HS (4:30PM to 6:30PM) starting after Thanksgiving; spring training is at Sandy Run Regional Park  each weekday (4:30PM to 7:00PM) plus Saturday morning from mid-February through the end of May.

Apply with resume and references to Crew Booster Club President Sue Newman at fairfaxcrewpresident@gmail.com.
