Lanier Spinners
The Lanier "Spinners" is a perfect team to represent our 2014-2015 end of the year summary. The Spinners participated in a wind turbine competition called the KidWind Challenge sponsored by James Madison University and Dominion Virginia Power at the NOVA Environmental Showcase at GMU April 9th. Points were awarded for wind turbine energy output tested in a wind tunnel, blade design, gear design, innovation, student knowledge and presentation. The students won first place overall and the award for Best Blade Design.

On April 25th, the Spinners moved on to the Regional Finals at JMU on April 25th. The team beat 16 other local winners from New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Massachusetts and Virginia to win first place and the judges award - totaling four awards in all.

The Spinners were led by Dr. Robert D'Souza, LMS teacher. "The students worked very hard on their project, going above and beyond what was expected of them," said D'Souza. "They worked all through spring break and on weekends. The students were eager to learn new concepts and willing to carry out multiple trials. I am very proud of them."
