 November 2014
Welcome to our new CloseUp! This year we are bringing you streamlined version of our newsletter each month. This month we will focus on Fairfax High School and try to highlight just some of the exciting things happening at the top of our pyramid.
Fairfax High Celebrates Homecoming Weekend
The Rebels celebrated a week of time traveling festivities. With a parade in the afternoon, a strong win over Marshall HS and dance Saturday, the FHS family had reason to celebrate.

FHS Band Continues to Lead

The FHS Marching Band continues to lead the region and state. Earlier this fall, the band took first place in USBands Northern Virginia Regional hosted by Herndon High School. With 27 bands participating from around the state, FHS Marching Rebels captured first place winning all captions including Best Music, Best Visual and Best Overall Effect.  According to director Alan Johnson the highlight of the competition was after the performance but before the scores were announced. "The kids were really beaming and completely pumped. The trophies are great, but it is moments like these that are far more memorable."  The band continued their streak in October at the state Marching Assessment (the first part of being named an "Honor Band") with a superior rating. The Marching Rebels then went to Annapolis, MD to compete in the US Bands Competition where they earned the highest score of the evening.

We look forward to following this great group of students as they march on this school year.
