Welcome to the City of Fairfax Schools! |
We thought this would be a good opportunity to welcome our new parents to the City of Fairfax Schools and re-introduce ourselves to the community. Ours is a unique situation in the City.
Since 1962, the City of Fairfax School Board has contracted with Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) for the delivery of educational services such as staffing, curriculum and transportation through a Schools Service Agreement (SSA). The City of Fairfax has its own elected five member School Board and Superintendent. The City School Board owns and is responsible for the school buildings and provides supplemental opportunities for students. City school students have access to the same programs as are provided in all Fairfax County public schools.
The City of Fairfax School Division is comprised of four buildings housing over 5,500 students in preK - 12. About 3,100 of these students are residents of the City of Fairfax, with the remainder residing in Fairfax County. The City Superintendent manages the SSA and works with the FCPS Superintendent and staff on topics such as boundary changes, school closings, selection of principals and special community needs. The City is responsible for major capital improvements and renovations to school buildings.
Our Schools:
- Daniels Run Elementary School
- Providence Elementary Schools
- Lanier Middle School
- Fairfax High School, including the Fairfax Academy for Communications and the Arts
It is our goal in the City of Fairfax to provide all of the students in city schools with exceptional opportunities and 21st century skills to become global citizens.
