From President

Karen Fleck

September 28, 2012

Greetings!

Does your PTA have enough volunteers for your Karen Fleck events?  If you have a small PTA board, or you haven't added many new helpers this year, may I recommend taking the time now, while it's still early in the year to recruit more parents.  Here are some tips.

  • Ask parents individually - it will be more successful than a mass email or newsletter request.
  • Be a welcoming committee on campus. Wear a name tag so people know who you are, while you tell all parents you are looking for a volunteer to:  (fill in small or large job here).  Try this in the morning at drop off, after school and
    at school events.
  • Have a sign up sheet at every PTA event and then follow up with a phone call or email and be sure you do put your new volunteers to work.
  • Expand your volunteer base by trying to recruit parents who speak other languages, as well as dads or parents of a specific grade who are otherwise unrepresented on your board.

Have an idea that worked?  Share it with Ninth District on our Facebook page!

It has been wonderful meeting so many of you as we make our way around to all of the council meetings, and at our recent Ninth District trainings.

I hope to see many more of you at our upcoming Prop 38 Rally and the many Prop 38 events we have coming up!

Karen

P.S. Have you seen the new Prop 38 television ad? Look for the PTA seal of approval at the end!

CIVIC MISSION OF SCHOOLS
Encourage young people to become effective citizens
PTA recognizes the importance of civic education. Unfortunately, 18-24 year-olds are less likely to vote than citizens age 25 and older. High School PTAs can participate by encouraging young people to register to vote when they turn 18. This is the first year Californians can register to vote online.  Learn more.

The University of Southern California School of Social work is working with eight San Diego school districts to  support awareness of and resources for military families. The Districts include Chula Vista, Escondido Union, Fallbrook Union, Fallbrook High School and Oceanside.
