Toddlers and screen time - how much is too much?

These days, it is not unusual to see toddlers intuitively swiping screens and confidently pressing buttons on an iPad or similar tablet.  But even parents, who enjoy the momentary peace that comes with handing a small child a gadget to play with, worry that this screen time may not be healthy for them. On the other hand, whether you like it or not, technology in the form of phones and tablets, is here to stay. Many elementary schools and some pre-schools are introducing iPads into the classroom to facilitate learning.

So the question isn't if your child will be computer literate, it's when - and how soon is too soon to start thinking about technology for children.

Meet some new threats from your teens' online world

At PureSight, our research team is busy
studying the Internet, locating and following new trends that could potentially endanger your kids.  Some of these may be referred to in your kids' chats with their friends, or even worse - with strangers, on Facebook, or other social media apps.
This is by no means a comprehensive list. Just a taste - that may shock you more than you thought.
  • ISIS on Social Networks - ISIS is reaching out to young kids around the world, trying to recruit them.
  • Tumblr Suicide Epidemic - at least 3 transgender teenagers have recently committed or attempted suicide after posting suicide notes on Tumblr.
  • "Fire Challenge" - teens douse themselves in rubbing alcohol, light themselves and then post these horrifying images on social media.
  • Smoking Alcohol - This fad, trending on YouTube shows teens inhaling vaporized alcohol, pumped into a bottle. The fumes are inhaled into the lungs and travel directly to the brain for instant intoxication.
  • Rainbow Parties - a group of girls, each wearing a different shade of lipstick, perform oral sex on one or more boys.
  • Vodka Eyeballing - a new teen drinking game involves pouring a shot of vodka into the eye, giving  a quick buzz when the alcohol enters the bloodstream through veins in the back of the eye.
  • Purple Drank - This drink is a legal, yet lethal, concoction of Sprite, Jolly Ranchers and codeine cough syrup.

PureSight protects your kids from these threats and others. Learn how..
