"Muir Ramble Route" authors, Peter and Donna Thomas, spoke to a group of about 25 hiking enthusiasts during their recent talk on February 13th at the Berkeley REI. This is their second talk there, where they share their adventure of walking to Yosemite from San Francisco, following John Muir's footsteps on his first trek across California in 1868. "Many questions were asked about the logistics of making this trek themselves, so perhaps even more people will discover the fun in "urban backpacking." It is especially fun to present the slide program to seasoned hikers, as they understand the joys of hiking and always welcome more stories of John Muir," reported Donna.

There is unique value for travelers to be gained from a geotourism approach to their vacation planning on their route to Yosemite National Park. The National Geographic Magazine definition of "geotourism" is important to remember as the summary of the insights and adventure mission - "tourism that sustains or enhances the geographical character of a place-its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage, and the well-being of its residents."
