Greetings,
If you think the Great Gray Owl's (seen below) suspected habitat preservation hopes in Greeley Hill deserve your support, GET INVOLVED! John Muir led Americans to help create the National Parks, surely an expansion of protected woodlands near where this photo was taken could be funded quickly if only nature lovers - and Great Gray Owl fans - got together to buy the forest parcels that are currently up for sale? If not, according to the real estate advertisement, the sale is being promoted as a prime timber harvesting opportunity.

So far, The Sierra Foothill Conservancy (SFC) has received 80 acres - as the Bean Creek Preserve donation (2010) - of the rich meadow habitat Great Gray Owls would turn to for their food source but major donors will be needed to successfully secure the 384 acres of dense woodlands nearby that is now on the market and could be a nesting location. If you have an interest in playing a role in this effort please contact us with comments at the Facebook John Muir Highway Geotourism Fan Club.

There is unique value for travelers to be gained from a geotourism approach to their vacation planning on their route to Yosemite National Park. The National Geographic Magazine definition of "geotourism" is important to remember as the summary of the insights and adventure mission - "tourism that sustains or enhances the geographical character of a place-its environment, culture, aesthetics, heritage, and the well-being of its residents."
