Surfing In Baja: A Tale of Shamanic Self-Care

Dearest Precious Ones,

For the first time in my incarnational embodiment as passer-by upon Pachahmama I recently mustered up the courage to inform my most beloved wife and daughter that I would be absent during the 2014 winter holiday season. Already being round eyes by genealogy, when presented with this radically unexpected bit of information, their eyes became even more round, with bucal expression to match! Their four ears became pointed as elves with the listening intensity of SETI's radio telescope in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, their countenance covered by fluctuating shades of pink, red and white, their body posture firmly anchored in a suspended space of disbelief-oh, what fearful pleasure at knowing the power of my passion for surfing.

Whether you are aware of this or not, my dear ones, aside from shamanic vocation of global service, my passion and love of surfing and our mother ocean likewise fuels my experience of meaningful presence as a child of the Earth. So at the completion of an intensely transformational 2014, my soul and body demanded that I engage in a Paqo Wachu involving taking myself to Baja California in Mexico for a shamanic surfing expedition. With the blessings of my still shocked most treasured loved ones, I threw a couple of board shorts and wax in a duffle bag, put on my 60's shades, and using frequent flier miles arrived in San Jose del Cabo. I share this little anecdote as an illustration of honoring the dreaming of one's heart as a shamanic opportunity for Self-care, even when socially conditioned expectations so often attempt to sabotage the inner wisdom of our soul.

As Pachakuti Mesa Tradition initiates we have learned to befriend a "soul-animated universe" requiring greater cognitive flexibility, comfort with unfamiliarity, appreciation for diverse perspectives, agility in the face of rapidly changing circumstances, an ability to hold multiple points of view simultaneously, and a capacity for discernment that relies equally on intelligence and intuition. I hence remain humbly grateful for the embodiment of such attitudinal shamanic skills exemplified by the loving support of my wife, Cindy and daughter, Andrea, allowing me to fulfill a long held dream of shamanic Self-care blessed by the healing waters of Mamacocha Pacifico. Because of this nurturance I've returned purified in vision and strengthened in vocation, while deepened in love for my family, in which I count each of you an integral part of. Entering into this unlimited field of possibility that accompanies this new year, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your sacred presence in my life.

Lovingly, don Oscar

THE SHIFT NETWORK PRESENTS
The Path of the Universal Shaman
Transforming our world through Sacred Living

Details to come
in May

I have truly enjoyed connecting with people around the world on this shared path to living in conscious connection with, and honoring our Earth. The rituals are simple but deep and meaningful. It is wonderful to leave the course with a tangible companion - our mesa - a Friend to get to know better and to develop a deeper relationship with over time. This doesn't stop with the course. With huge gratitude and love to don Oscar, the Shift network and all other beings - seen and unseen - that have made this possible. The Universe happily conspired to bring me to don Oscar's Universal Shamanism training! I have already begun to incorporate these teachings into my work with healing energy and sound, as well as into my personal spiritual and meditative practices. Thank you, don Oscar, for showing me how to deepen my connection to Nature and truly fill my role in the family of Gaia.
