Rector's Reflections
A Kingdom for the Little Flock
"Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." Jesus promises the kingdom to us, his little flock, straining our minds with this uninhibited generosity. Even to us, so little and undeserving? Even to us, in the face of so many things to be afraid of? Suddenly everything we hold dear in this world is repriced, and the true value of things becomes plainly clear. We are being given the kingdom! So why not sell our possessions and give to those in need? We are being given the kingdom! So why not wait on expectant tiptoes for the master? When he comes he will wait on us! The Father's free generosity calls forth in us a generosity we have never before known. Fear is now met with anticipation, and tightfistedness with open hands. We are being given the kingdom, so now we know what true treasure looks like. And yet, like our fathers and mothers in faith that the Hebrews reading speaks of, we too "desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one." But in Christ our heavenly country has already arrived. In him, God has freely given us the kingdom. [Sundays and Seasons]

So have no fear little flock because while we await Christ's second coming, we acclaim the Lord's continuous presence with us now. As the Marjorie Jilson hymn based on the Luke 12 text sings:
*    Have no fear, little flock because the Father has chosen to give you the kingdom;
*    Have good cheer, little flock because the Father will keep you in his love forever;
*    Praise the Lord, little flock because the Lord stoops down to heal you, uplift and restore you;

We lift our thankful hearts because God stays close beside us, in all things works with us and for that we give thanks to God. See you in worship!

Blessings+
Bill

Worship Notes:
Liturgy for August & September

Ordinary time, the Sundays after Pentecost began in May and goes until the end of November. We've spent these summer months working our way through scenes from the Gospel of Luke depicting Jesus' ministry in Galilee and movement toward Jerusalem. Careful readers will notice that the lectionary does not simply march the assembly through the third gospel sequentially. Rather, it pays special attention to stories unique to Luke's gospel, highlighting themes that are particularly Lukan: God's healing and reconciling power made available to all people, particularly the poor and the outcast.

In the last months of summer, Jesus draws closer to Jerusalem and we come to understand that his acts of healing have disrupted the status quo with consequences for all who choose to follow him. Having seen Jesus' willingness to confront the legalism and prejudice that keep people needlessly sick and suffering, disciples are confronted with difficult words and choices about what they will value more, their personal comfort or their public call.

Given this summer's persistent theme of healing, personal and societal, we will include a healing rite in worship next Sunday, August 14th at both services.

Some of the components of our liturgy will change for August and September including:
*    Prayers of the People will change each week (source: Sundays and Seasons)
*    The Confession (source: Book of Common Prayer Rite II)
*    Eucharistic Prayer 2 (source: Enriching Our Worship)
*    Communion Invitation and Prayer After Communion (source: A New Zealand Prayer Book)
*    Sending Blessings (source: from Saint Clare)

We will make some additional liturgical changes for the autumn as the Gospel readings move from scenes of miraculous healing to parables as Jesus teaches the crowds, the Pharisees, and the disciples about the demands of discipleship.
How can I become a member of All Saints'?
How do I join the Episcopal Church?
Just show up. OK, this may not be the only requirement, but it is by far, the most important one. Many Episcopal parishes are intentionally vague about assigning membership. We don't want to be known as places where weekly attendance is taken, annual contributions are tabulated, and your membership is assigned only if you pass muster. We are much less concerned about counting the people who are in, than we are about leaving someone out.

Becoming a part of a faith community means more than belonging to a particular set of persons meeting in a particular building on Sunday. Membership begins with Baptism. An infant or an adult baptized at All Saints' becomes a member here as well as a member of the full Body of Christ. Persons from other traditions who have already been baptized may become a member of All Saints' by having their membership transferred from their church of baptism.

If Baptism is full membership into the Body of Christ, what is the rationale for Confirmation? Confirmation provides one full membership into the Episcopal Church. It is also required if one wishes to vote in a parish election, serve on a Vestry, or represent the parish at Diocesan Council. If you desire to become a member of All Saints', please contact the rector and consider new member inquiry gatherings 8:00-8:45 am or 11:15-noon on Sundays, August 14 and 28th

New Member Gatherings in August, Welcoming during the Bishop's Visit, September 11th.
Dinner Bell
Knowing that hunger presents itself both physically and relationally, the Wolfeboro Dinner Bell Community Meal gathers Thursday evenings at 5:00 pm in the Parish Hall of All Saints' Church. The program is coordinated by Donna Young and All Saints' serves as the fiscal agent and co-sponsoring organization. Area individuals, churches, non-profit and service organizations support Dinner Bell with volunteers to share food and fellowship with our neighbors. All are welcome to the weekly meal and a free-will offering is collected to help offset costs. If you have any questions or would like to serve as a volunteer, please contact Donna at 4youngs03855@gmail.com.
Coffee Hour for Andy & Jane Milligan
on August 14th
For 35 years, Andy and Jane Milligan have been members of All Saints' Church. Both are LEMs, Lectors and faithful attendees of 8:00 Worship. Between them, they have served in almost every church position, sometimes twice: Vestry Member, Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Treasurer, Clerk, Secretary, Convention Delegate, ECW President, Flower Guild, Sexton, Building Fund Treasurer, and cooked or organized more meals and receptions than anyone could ever count. The Milligans are moving to Asheville NC and Sunday will be their last service as Wolfeboro residents.

The Hospitality Team for 8:00 Worship invites all parishioners to our Coffee Hour on AUGUST 14th to celebrate Andy and Jane's service to All Saints' and to wish them well in their new adventure. Please plan to came after 8:00 Worship or before 10:00 Worship.

Thank You.
Wolfeboro Reads:
Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
Starting on Tuesday, September 13, join Pastor Gina and Pastor Bill for discussion and sharing around a common read. We will meet each week (with some exceptions), from 4:00-5:30pm in the Gathering Space at FCCW, 115 S. Main St. We will spend a few weeks on each book that we read. To start, we have a chosen an award-winning book, also nominated for a Pulitzer Prize by a journalist for the The Atlantic. It is written in memoir style, as letters to his teenaged son, reflecting on the issues of race in America. All are welcome!
Holy Rollers Needed!
The Vestry is looking for volunteers to help paint the two hallways going into the undercroft. I will plan to work on a few Tuesdays in August and September. We can do a "painting party" or can give you materials to work alone or in small groups. Please let me know if you are interested in helping.  (Even a little help is great!) We will probably work the morning of August 23rd.  A "no pressure" ministry!  Let me know so I will have adequate materials.

Thank you!

New Women's Bible Study Monday Mornings
Our Women's Bible Study will be discussing the long time favorite Scripture passage of Psalm 23, and the book by Phillip Keller, entitled "A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23". In light of the unsettling events of our day and the growing concern of death and destruction, we'll take a deeper look into the 23rd Psalm and consider our bearings and foundation of faith to help face what life throws at us in this 21st Century. If you have any friends, family or neighbor ladies who may be interested, please invite them to join us, all are welcome.  No special church affiliation, background, or advanced knowledge is necessary.

We'll meet on Mondays at 10:00 am in the Beck Library at All Saints.  Please join us! If you have any questions, please contact Joyce Lake at: 603-544-2440 or jvlake47@gmail.com
Mission/Outreach Team News
The Mission/Outreach Team (MOT) is looking for a charitable organization to benefit from All Saints' 2016 Christmas Offering. We would like the charity to have some affiliation with a member or friend of All Saints'  Our 2016 Easter Offering benefited La Via , a community center in Moldovia. Holly and Ralph Simons' daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Vitali are active in this program. Because of this connection All Saints' was able to make a direct contribution to a charity that helps children far away from Wolfeboro. If you or someone you know has a similar connection with a worthy charity any where in the world near or far, please contact Beth Smith  (289-8804, bethsmith967@outlook.com) or Gerry DeGeorge (569-1089, gerrydg18@gmail.com) co-chairs of MOT.
