An Opportunity to Feed Our Neighbors and Our Spirituality

Dear All Sainter's,

In economics there is a concept called "opportunity cost." Every time we save or spend, we are giving up the opportunity to use those resources for something else. Four dollars spent on an espresso drink is four dollars not put into retirement savings, your next vacation fund , or to feed a hungry family of four. Daily we make financial choices without consciously looking at the opportunity costs. Jesus' parable for Sunday [Luke 12:13-21] raises the issue of the opportunities lost when we do this, opportunities Jesus calls being "rich toward God." What opportunities exist in our congregation and community that need to be considered so we can respond to God's gracious provisions by being rich toward God?

Did you know that next door, across town, throughout the Lakes Region and around our state:
  • 1 in 10 people in New Hampshire are food insecure...
  • Which means 139,730 neighbors aren't sure where their next meal may come from...
  • Including 41,350 children under the age of 18 who may be hungry right now.
This week the seven local churches who collaborate to feed our neighbors in need are marking L.I.F.E. Ministries Sunday to raise awareness and money for our shared ministry. The issues of food insecurity, distribution and waste are a growing concern in a world where many are malnourished and hungry (including our immediate neighbors). Sunday we'll read and reflect on putting the resources we have been blessed with into the "bigger barns" of our savings and checking accounts, an opportunity for us to feed our neighbors and our own spiritual hunger.

See you in worship to be fed and forgiven.
Bill+

P.S. Speaking of feeding, we have a homebound member who would appreciate a meal (and occasionally someone to share it with) a couple of times a week. If you would like to help, please speak with me, or Louise Graham who is coordinating meals for this person. Thanks!

L.I.F.E. Ministries Food Pantry Summer Fundraising

Community Donations
From July 25 to 31 there will be donation containers in various stores in the Wolfeboro area. A 50/50 raffle will be held July 29 to 31 with raffle tickets being sold outside Harvest Market and Hunter's Save and Shop by food pantry volunteers.

Benefit Concert
On Sunday, July 31, 2016, a musical variety concert will be held at First Congregational Church of Wolfeboro, 256 S. Main Street at 7pm. Tickets for the concert are $20 at the door. Several local and regional musicians will be performing including Natalie Hebden, Mark Dearborn, First Congregational Church of Wolfeboro Hand Bell Choir, and others.

L.I.F.E. Ministries Sunday
Seven area churches will have special offerings for the Food Pantry taken at services on Sunday, July 31, 2016. These churches include All Saints Episcopal, First Baptist, First Christian, First Congregational, Melvin Village Community, Saint Katherine Drexel and Tuftonboro Methodist.

The money raised for the families in need will be used to purchase food from local groceries and the New Hampshire Food Bank. In the first five months of 2016 the L.I.F.E. Ministries Food Pantry has distributed 56,216 meals to families in need. In 2015 the Food Pantry served over 14,000 individuals with much needed food. The people served by the Food Pantry are from Wolfeboro, Tuftonboro, Ossipee, Melvin Village, Alton, Wakefield, Effingham, Chocorua, Farmington, Gilford, Middleton, Moultonborough, New Durham, Rochester, Sanbornville, Tamworth, Center Ossipee, West Ossipee, and Milton.
Families in Transition
Just when we thought that FIT was on their way, we learn that someone filed an appeal to the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA). There will be a ZBA meeting in the Wolfeboro Library meeting room at 7pm on Monday, August 1 to review their decision.  There will be no input from the audience but it will be important to have a strong representation to show our continued strong support for HOPE HOUSE. Please wear your blue hats  and arrive by 6:30pm so that we have a sea of blue hats inside the room and not standing out in the hallway.

Please pass the word to your friends that are concerned about helping families in transition within the Governor Wentworth Regional School District.

Don Holm, Sr. Warden
Dinner Bell Starts, Thursday, August 4th
Knowing that hunger presents itself both physically and relationally, the Wolfeboro Dinner Bell Community Meal gathers Thursday evenings at 5:00 pm in the Parish Hall of All Saints' Church. The program is coordinated by Donna Young and All Saints' serves as the fiscal agent and co-sponsoring organization. Area individuals, churches, non-profit and service organizations support Dinner Bell with volunteers to share food and fellowship with our neighbors. All are welcome to the weekly meal and a free-will offering is collected to help offset costs. If you have any questions or would like to serve as a volunteer, please contact Donna at 4youngs03855@gmail.com.
New Women's Bible Study Monday Mornings
Our Women's Bible Study will be discussing the long time favorite Scripture passage of Psalm 23, and the book by Phillip Keller, entitled "A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23". In light of the unsettling events of our day and the growing concern of death and destruction, we'll take a deeper look into the 23rd Psalm and consider our bearings and foundation of faith to help face what life throws at us in this 21st Century. If you have any friends, family or neighbor ladies who may be interested, please invite them to join us, all are welcome.  No special church affiliation, background, or advanced knowledge is necessary.

We'll meet on Mondays at 10:00 am in the Beck Library at All Saints.  Please join us! If you have any questions, please contact Joyce Lake at: 603-544-2440 or jvlake47@gmail.com
Mission/Outreach Team News
The Mission/Outreach Team (MOT) is looking for a charitable organization to benefit from All Saints' 2016 Christmas Offering. We would like the charity to have some affiliation with a member or friend of All Saints'  Our 2016 Easter Offering benefited La Via , a community center in Moldovia. Holly and Ralph Simons' daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Vitali are active in this program. Because of this connection All Saints' was able to make a direct contribution to a charity that helps children far away from Wolfeboro. If you or someone you know has a similar connection with a worthy charity any where in the world near or far, please contact Beth Smith  (289-8804, bethsmith967@outlook.com ) or Gerry DeGeorge (569-1089, gerrydg@gmail.com) co-chairs of MOT.
Mind, Body and Tea Event to Highlight Human Trafficking

St. Andrew's-by-the-Sea, Rye Beach, is hosting the event. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited. Please register at www.standrews-by-the-sea.org.
Senior Center Meals
