Rector's Reflections
Forgiven and Sent Forth in Peace

This Sunday the law and gospel interweave in the texts. In the Hebrew Scripture reading the law is clear on adultery and murder, yet Nathan proclaims forgiveness to King David (a proclamation that includes a tragic judgment to the innocent child born from David's sins). In the Gospel the community identifies the unnamed woman as a sinner, yet Jesus challenges Simon and his guests with a parable of forgiveness. Then he gifts the woman with forgiveness and peace. Then in the Epistle reading, Paul proclaims to the Galatian community that they are justified by faith in Christ.

In worship Sunday we'll stand with David and the unnamed woman to confess things done and things left undone. With them, we gather to receive in word and sacraments the assurance of absolution and forgiveness and are sent forth in peace. In worship Sunday we'll be accompanied by sisters and brothers in Christ who are justified by faith, freed to love and serve God and our neighbor.

In Christ,
Bill+

Grant me, Christ, to kiss your feet.
Grant me to embrace your hands, these hands which created me by your word.
Grant me to see your face, O Word,
and to contemplate and to savor your vision.
Let the reflection of your divine glory be seen by us as a simple light,
light that suddenly becomes visible within ourselves,
light that springs like water,
light that burns like fire in the heart which it really possesses.
We urgently ask you to save us
and to justify us by your grace and your mercy,
that mercy which you have now poured out on me with abundance.

Education for Ministry
Education For Ministry (EFM) is a 4 year program of theological study for lay people, which requires a commitment a year at a time. The group meets for a 3 hour session each week, and there is a bit of reading between each session. EFM gives people a solid grounding in the Bible and Church History, and also the ability to make connections between your faith and what you do in the world.

The core of the program is doing theological reflection, which integrates tradition (scripture, hymnody, church writings), culture (movies, issues, news) belief/position (what we understand to be true in our lives) and action/experience - how is our behavior impacted by all of this.

There is an Open House at Trinity, Meredith on Tuesday, June 28 at 6 p.m. for anyone who would like to know more. If you are interested, please contact the Rev. Robin Soller at: robin.soller@trinitymeredith.org
