Rector's Reflections
Geography of Grief, Landscapes of Loss

The readings Sunday have both Elijah and Jesus journey through landscapes of loss. Two women of sorrow, both previously acquainted with grief, prepare to bury their sons near the graves of their husbands. Both had experienced the loss of a spouse along with the "social security" their husbands provided in a patriarchal world. Now, with the death of their sons, their future social security was no more. Yet death does not have the last word-for them or for us.

Both Elijah and Jesus cross boundaries to enter the realm of the "unclean" as they touch a corpse. Yet in that touch is life. Elijah and Jesus restore the sons to life and clothe their mothers with joy (Ps. 30:11). With their sons restored to life, their social security is assured, at least for a time. In baptism we die, rise, and are clothed with Christ. Even though we too know the geography of grief, the Lord of Life meets us this day in the bread of life and cup of salvation. [Sundays and Seasons 2016]

We also gather in the geography of grief caused by gun violence and encourage you to #WearOrange to worship Sunday. Orange is the safety color of hunters and we wear it to bear witness on National Gun Violence Awareness Day that death does not have the last word and as the baptized we live in hope.

See you in worship!

Found Plaque
A Twelve Step plaque has been found in the parish office. If anyone has any knowledge of who it may belong to or its origin, please let Deb know. Thank you.
From the Music Corner
Our long-awaited new organ has arrived and been installed, and your music director could not be more thrilled!

Here's hoping you are already enjoying the smooth and varied sounds that are beginning to emanate from the loft. Pastor Bill and others tell me they are leaving doors open so they can hear my practice while they are in meetings. My dear Ralph jokes about becoming an "organ widow". There's no question that my desire to play frequently has escalated!

Your ASEC leadership is planning and anticipating a very special dedication service on Sunday, June 5th, with ONE SERVICE at 9 AM. Special organ pieces will be chosen for the prelude and postlude, and our choir will be offering a special "end of season" anthem that day..... "When We Worship God Through Music". The choir is also providing our coffee hour food that morning, so please join us for a wonderful time of musical worship and then fellowship, expressing our gratitude to God for the gift of instrument and song!

Blessings and joy,
Holly

PS Try to come by 8:45 AM on June 5th to enjoy the Prelude selections on our new organ!
Contemplative Group
Words and silence are powerful parts of a spiritual journey. Silence helps us recognize and respond to the love of God; and words can help us more truly love God and one another. Words and silence have been used by people of faith and doubt who have hungered for meaning, mystery, peace, hope, and God from the beginning of time. If you are interested in the possibility of a contemplative group forming here at All Saints' to explore and experience the tradition of contemplative spirituality found in words and silence, please speak with Pastor Bill.
Education for Ministry
Education For Ministry (EFM) is a 4 year program of theological study for lay people, which requires a commitment a year at a time. The group meets for a 3 hour session each week, and there is a bit of reading between each session. EFM gives people a solid grounding in the Bible and Church History, and also the ability to make connections between your faith and what you do in the world.

The core of the program is doing theological reflection, which integrates tradition (scripture, hymnody, church writings), culture (movies, issues, news) belief/position (what we understand to be true in our lives) and action/experience - how is our behavior impacted by all of this.

There is an Open House at Trinity, Meredith on Tuesday, June 28 at 6 p.m. for anyone who would like to know more. If you are interested, please contact the Rev. Robin Soller at: robin.soller@trinitymeredith.org
