Rector's Reflections
Do You Love Me? Follow Me

When we encounter Jesus, we are changed and will never be the same. Jesus can be revealed in a blinding light on the road, in an abundance of fish, in breakfast on the beach. God uses all sorts of surprising things-bread, wine, water, words of forgiveness-to convert us. Like baptism, this conversion is both a once-in-a-lifetime, life-changing event and a daily process-a change that comes again and again, like Jesus' question to Peter: "Do you love me?" Again and again, Jesus calls us to follow him. For Saul, the journey doesn't end with the blinding light on the road. For Peter, the journey doesn't end with breakfast on the beach. Conversion sets each of them, and each of us, on a path that continues for the rest of our life on earth-and leads into life eternal. [Sundays & Seasons 2016]

We gather the Third Sunday of Easter to hear how the disciples make a big splash and have breakfast on the beach with our risen Jesus. We wade in the water (remembering our baptism) and eat with Jesus (celebrating the Eucharist) when we gather for our weekly encounter with Jesus our risen Lord. We we do, Jesus asks us, with Peter, again and again: Do you love me? And Jesus invites us, again and again, to follow him, bringing Easter life to others.

He is Risen Indeed. Alleluia!

Pastoral Care Commissioning
The photo was taken last Sunday by Ralph Simons, and is the Commissioning of Pastoral Care Visitors. Members of our church and members of the Congregational Church were trained in Called to Care and will serve both churches as pastoral care visitors.  The Pastoral Care Visitors are:  Joanne Crowe, Arlene Salzgeber, Danielle Pierpont, Phil Wasmuth, and Donna Young.
Foundation Cristosal
You may notice an additional to our "quick links" block (above). All Saints has partnered with Foundation Cristosal for about 10 years.

Foundation Cristosal is a human rights-based community development organization that works in El Salvador to strengthen the ability of the poor to act for justice and development as equal citizens in a democratic society.

You can learn more about their work and receive their e-news letter by visiting their website.

Rector's Field Trip
For those who might think a Rector only works on Sunday, or only shares their gifts with the parish they are called to, we are reminded occasionally that clergy are called to share their priestly and pastoral gifts with the whole Church. This week our Rector spent Wednesday at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut sharing some of his gifts. At a luncheon he spoke with Episcopal and Lutheran students about his experience as a Lutheran Pastor serving an Episcopal Congregation followed by a question and answer session. During the late afternoon Bill worked on his sermon in the Yale Divinity School Library. The evening included Bill  presiding at the Berkeley (Episcopal) Divinity School and Lutheran Student Organization at Yale Joint Community Eucharist using liturgy from Evangelical Lutheran Worship in the Marquand Chapel followed by dinner and conversation. The Episcopal and Lutheran students, faculty and staff at Yale are grateful for All Saints' sharing Pastor Bill for a day.

Standing During Easter Tide Communion
While the distribution of Holy Communion at All Saints' has traditionally been done by gathering and kneeling as one is able at the communion rail, standing is the more ancient practice and is especially suitable for the Easter season. This year we will experience continuous communion, standing at a station on the floor by the baptismal font. You are invited to come forward and receive the bread from Pastor Bill and move to the side to receive the wine from a Eucharistic Minister. We stand to honor the resurrection (verses a more penitential kneeling) and to have a greater sense of the communion of saints that extends before us and follows after us. The communion continues and we are simply part of this open-handed cloud of witnesses receiving the life-giving bread of heaven and the grace-filled cup of salvation.
New Organ Arrival: Need able bodied helpers!
If you are interested with helping with some lifting of components of the new organ, please let Andy Milligan know (569-4330 or handyandy@metrocast.net). We expect the organ to arrive sometime Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday of next week and will let them know just as soon as we get a confirmed day and time. Most of the heavy lifting will be done by an organ lift but there will be some lifting of the components onto and off the lift.

Thanks, Andy
Bible Study: A Walk through the Acts of the Apostles
Starts Thursday, April 14th

Bishop N.T. Wright says that the mysterious power of Jesus haunts the whole story of Acts. Jesus is announced as King and Lord, not as an increasingly distant memory but as a living and powerful reality, a person who can be known and loved, obeyed and followed a person who continues to act within the real world. We call the book "The Acts of the Apostles," but we should think of it as "The Acts of Jesus: Part Two." We will read through the book together to see how Jesus' acts through the apostles inform and empower our acts today.

Join us Thursday afternoons 3:00-4:00 pm followed by a brief Eucharist in the Beck Memorial Library. Please bring your favorite Bible or use one from the library. It would be helpful to let Pastor Bill know your are coming -- or, just show up April 14th!

Lay Leadership Institute May 6-7
Deadline to register April 15th
The Lay Leadership Institute is our annual opportunity to learn the basics of vestry life, how the Episcopal Church works in New Hampshire, or to explore our call to Lay Ministry in other and more advanced content. Past seminars have included a Wardens' Roundtable and seminars on Leadership in the Church; Expanding Communication; and Listening Skills. The Institute will again offer the threshold Basics Course, which is essential to lay leadership in the congregation. The Basic Course especially welcomes new and continuing vestry members. Those who have already taken the Basics Course will have a choice of four day-long seminars:

* Bishop Hirschfeld will lead an exploration of liturgy in a seminar of interest to all persons who worship in church but especially to those who participate in defined roles as eucharistic ministers, altar guild members, lectors, ushers, choristers, acolytes, crucifers.
* A seminar on learning the art of narrative will train participants in storytelling, a skill that helps us make sense of the life we live and offer that life to others. The seminar will be led by Laura Simoes, Missioner of Communication, and Judith Esmay, Canon for Lay Leadership.
* Presenters from Massachusetts Interfaith Power and Light will illuminate issues of sustainability and assist church leaders in the greening of church properties and practices. Their presentation will include information about calculating energy costs and sources of funding assistance.
* Our annual Wardens' Roundtable will focus this year on the conduct and potential of mutual minister reviews, in exercises led by Hannah Anderson, Canon to the Ordinary and seasoned guide to critically important mutual ministry reviews in many grateful congregations.

Deadline to register is April 15th, please contact the church office if interested in attending.

Thank you!
Mary Williams would like to send a big THANK YOU for all that celebrated and sent her birthday cards for her 90th birthday!
