Rector's Reflections
Facing Death

Mary of Bethany recognizes Jesus' mission: he has come to die. Perceiving the new thing God is doing, she embraces his death and pours out her devotion to Jesus in an extravagant act. The prophet beseeches the Israelites to forget the old pattern of salvation-the dry way through the Red Sea. Now God will make a new way, a wet way, in a dry, barren, and death-filled place.

On this Fifth Sunday in Lent, salvation lies not behind us but before us, through the death and resurrection of Jesus. Mary's action in the face of death is bold. She anoints a corpse, and in so doing honors Jesus' vulnerability and his life. She models love for the other disciples and for us.

By honestly facing the reality of death, we are more fully able to live honoring our own vulnerability and the humanity of others. We live with gratitude. We are more able to love one another and God extravagantly. However, in our culture, mortality is often avoided. The stench of death is removed through chemicals, and deceased bodies are cosmetically enhanced to appear as life-like as possible.

Each day, we the baptized boldly face death, trusting that God has made a new way, a wet way, to travel from death to life. God in Christ has honored human vulnerability by becoming flesh and by laying down his own life. He is the new way through a dry, barren, and death-filled place. Because Christ Jesus has made them his own, the baptized walk wet through the desert places of this life, pouring out the whole of their lives, down to the very last hair, in extravagant love for God and for the people God has formed. [Sundays and Seasons 2016]

Come be anointed by the extravagant Word and Sacraments of Jesus on Sunday . Hear words of hope and promise, dip your fingers into the life giving waters in the font and be fed and forgiven at the table of God's grace as we walk toward the cross...

Maundy Thursday Dinner Church
You are invited to share Maundy Thursday Dinner Church at All Saints' with our brothers and sisters in Christ from First Congregational Church Wolfeboro on ThursdayMarch 24, at 6:00 pm. We will gather in the Children's Chapel for opening prayers, move into the parish hall for a simple supper that includes Holy Communion and brief readings/reflection as part of the meal. Then we will move up to the worship space to sit and reflect in the evening shadows, wash hands in the waters of baptism, and observe the stripping of the chancel to ready ourselves for Good Friday.

A simple
meal of savory chicken with orange and dates, accompanied by rice will be provided by the All Saints' Women's Worship group. When you sign-up in the parish hall there is an opportunity to bring one of the additional meal items and/or assist with cleaning up as your offering. Join us as we end our Lenten journey and remember Jesus' Mandatum, the "command" to love (the source of the term Maundy) and his last supper with his disciples.

Message from Creation Care Team
Something to think about this Easter Season-the amount of pesticides used to raise Easter Lilies with some suggested alternatives. We are bombarding our environment with chemicals harmful to God's creation including us. Can we take time to be mindful before we consume?
