Advent Begins This Sunday
Advent is about the "coming days." God's people have always lived in great expectation, but that expectation finds specific, repeated enunciation in the texts appointed for these four weeks. The ancients anticipated a "righteous Branch to spring up for David." The Thessalonians awaited "the coming of our Lord Jesus with all the saints." Our Lord's contemporaries hoped for the time "to stand before the Son of Man." With them we eagerly await the coming days: another Christmas celebration, a second coming, and the advent of our Lord in word and supper. Come to worship.

Rector's Reflections
Between Black Friday and Cyber Monday
This week of thanksgiving is overshadowed by the shouting selfish greed of our consumer culture. And yet in the over consumption thrust upon us by the empire of our age, the Kingdom of God is all around us, if we only pause, look, and give thanks for it amid the deep discounts on stuff that will not satisfy and will rust and fade away.
As Advent begins, we look forward to the celebration of Jesus' first coming to the world in the light of a text that promises his final coming. We, like the gospel writer, Luke, live in the time between these two "advents" of Jesus. Sunday's gospel gives us guidance on how to live faithfully as we wait for Jesus to return. However, in this in-between time, it is easy for us to become distracted and lose sight of the promises of Jesus. Daily tasks and routines can lull us into apathy. Ease and success can allow us to ignore our spiritual needs. Struggles, setbacks, and disappointments can cause us to lose hope and fall into despair. But Jesus tells us we should not feel beaten down or defeated by the struggles of this world, but instead "stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near" (Luke 21:28).
Jesus goes on to say that there will be signs, signs of new life and growth, such as the sprouting of a leaf on a fig tree in the summertime. These signs are perceptible to us here and now. These signs help us know that God's kingdom is coming. In fact, they remind us that in Jesus, God's kingdom has already come near, and Jesus words will not pass away until this kingdom has fully come. We should live with our eyes focused on today's signs that demonstrate God's reign and trust that Jesus' redemption of the world will one day be complete.
May you see the Kingdom in unexpected people and places.

Holiday Basket
The Rotary Club of Wolfeboro will be holding it's annual "Holiday Basket" fund raising event for the L.I.F.E. Ministries Food Pantry starting on Tuesday December 8th to Saturday the 12th.
As in past years they will set up a headquarters in the lobby of the Spencer-Hughes Real Estate office, downtown Wolfeboro at 22 South Main St. Rotarian's will be there every day from 7:00am to 1:00pm to talk about the need and to accept money and food donations. Wolfeboro's own AM radio station WASR with host Gary James will broadcast short segments over the air to publicize the event.
In past years the event has generated from $34,000 to $60,000 dollars per year for the food pantry, so this is the largest fund raising event for us and so very important to us. Last year was the year we received the $60,000 and so we are hoping to do as well this year.
I hope you all will be able to join us on at least one of those mornings to show your support of the food pantry and maybe share your feeling regarding the work that the food pantry is doing for this community.
Please let me know which days and approximate times you would be available to join us at the WASR Radio Studio at 73 Varney Rd in Wolfeboro. You may email me (stanleyanderson@yahoo.com)  or call me at 569-1911.

Youth Group Meeting

Capital Campaign Update
A message to the All Saints' congregation:
It is with a profound gratitude that it can be reported that the Capital Campaign is going very well, but has not yet reached the goal.
The vestry is in the process of prioritizing the projects based on the amount pledged to date. If you have not yet pledged to the campaign we would ask that you prayerfully consider a pledge.
Pledge cards can be picked up at church or you can drop a note to Beth Smith (bsmith967@outlook.com) stating the amount you'll pledge.  The pledge can be spread out over the remainder of this year and the next two years.
Sincerely,
Phil Wasmuth

Sharing God's Blessing
On Holy Ground
We belong to God; we belong to one another. In his book, Reaching Out, Henri Nouwen tells of a reunion with a former student, an experience that revealed to him the meaning of community: "It is the Christ in you, who recognizes the Christ in me... From now on, wherever you go, or wherever I go, all the ground between us will be holy ground." We are called to walk on holy ground, practicing the radical hospitality Jesus modeled. Starting with our most personal and intimate relationships and moving through expanding circles - of friends, relations, church family, co-workers, and others with whom we come in contact - we tend to the quality of our interaction in these relationships using spiritual practices of forgiveness, reconciliation, justice, openness, honesty, hospitality, shaping communities.
Advent Wreaths
Boxwood Advent wreaths are being sold again this year to benefit our preschool ministry for children and families. Please contact Linda Siracusa if you would like one of these beautiful wreaths. Cost is $40. Wreaths will be available for pick-up during both coffee hours on the 29th (the first Sunday of Advent).
Thanksgiving in Community
Tuesday evening the sanctuary of All Saints' was filled with community members who prayed and sang together, shared money and food and clothing, a glimpse of the Kingdom right here on South Main Street. Heartfelt thanks to all who helped make the Community Thanksgiving Service a success from Flower Guild Chair Louise Graham for our beautiful altar, Parish Administrator for our bulletins, videographer extraordinaire Ralph Simons for recording it for Wolfeboro Community Television, Carolyn Sundquist and Lee White for greeting and ushering our guests, and Minister of Music Holly Simons and All Saints' choir members who joined with musicians form other faith communities to pack the choir loft and fill our hearts with God's song. It was an evening of gracious abundance and thanksgiving!
