Rector's Reflections
Who Can Accept It?
"This teaching is difficult; who can accept it?" (John 6:60). Jesus' teaching about eating his flesh and drinking his blood isn't something we can figure out and accept on our own. The question of accepting Jesus' difficult teachings gets turned on its head. No one can accept it. The good news of Jesus is too radical, unsettling, and illogical for us to accept. Through the grace of God and the work of the Holy Spirit we are able to echo Peter's profession of faith: "You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God" (John 6:68-69). Like Peter, we have come to believe-despite our doubts and weakness of faith-through the Spirit's work in the word.

Death of Lynn Gustafson
Prayers of comfort for the family and friends of Lynn Gustafson who died on August 6th, especially for her sister Lorraine Crocker. Lynn's memorial service will be here at All Saints next Wednesday the 19th, at Noon. You can find a copy of her obituary here:

The Summer of Bread Sermon Series: Jesus, Maslow, and Bread

August 23, 2015 - John 6:56-69 - Bread is Living Beyond Myself [Self-actualization]: Eat my flesh for eternal life. This is a difficult teaching; who can accept it? Does this bother you? Do you also wish to go away? Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life...

Sharing God's Blessings:
Are You Asking the Right Questions?
The questions are not: Are you a satisfactory steward? Or can you be guilt-tripped into giving more? The questions are: Are you generous like Jesus? Are you yearning to live a Christ-like life of abundant self-giving?
Rudy Krueger
Rudolph (Rudy) O. Krueger, 79, of Wolfeboro (NH), died peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on August 18, 2015.

Rudy was born in Wauwatosa, WI, on January 12, 1936 to Emilie (Roessler) and Paul Krueger.   Rudy grew up in Milwaukee, WI and graduated from Boys Technical High School and the Milwaukee School of Engineering. During his youth, he enjoyed building and operating ham radios. Following his college graduation, Rudy joined the Navy and was assigned to the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Lake Champlain where he worked in radar until his honorable discharge in 1960.

He met his sweetheart, Barbara, while in the Navy and they were married for 55 years.  They raised their four children in Tewksbury, MA before relocating to Wolfeboro, NH.

Rudy was an engineer at Honeywell Corporation in Brighton, Lawrence and Billerica, MA for many years. He was an active member of the British Car Club of NH, The MGT Register, the Lakes Region Photography Club and he regularly volunteered in the Wolfeboro community. He was a member of the Wolfeboro Historical Society and he helped to build the Historical Society's antique barn. He and his wife belonged to the Newcomer's Club of Wolfeboro. Rudy loved to tinker with and share his passion and knowledge for restoring old British cars. He will be remembered for his happy disposition and his patience, compassion, generosity, sense of humor, as well as his mechanical and engineering prowess.

Rudy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He leaves his wife, Barbara, of Wolfeboro; four children, son Eric Krueger and his wife, Tina, of Nashua, NH; daughter Janet and her husband Nathan Matsubara of Burlington, MA; son Kurt Krueger and his wife, Aimee, of Chelmsford, MA; and son, Karl Krueger and his wife, Judy, of Chester, NH. In addition, Rudy leaves 12 grandchildren whom he cherished and loved immensely, three dear brothers: Kurt, Richard and Dennis, and many much loved nieces and nephews.  Rudy was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Paul and Walter.

Services:
Calling hours will be held from 3-6pm on Saturday, August 22, at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St, Burlington, MA. A memorial service will be held on Sunday August 23 at 1:00pm at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 242 Boston Rd, Chelmsford, MA. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Knudson Churchill Scholarship Trust, 8 Woodston Lane, Palm Coast, Florida 32164.
Music Corner
On Wednesday, August 12th, six ASEC parishioners (Ralph Simons, Dave Knox, Kit and John Peterson, Don and Sandy Johnson) joined me in an expedition to Methuen, Mass for the purpose of hearing and playing a 3-manual Johannus organ installed there - the Ecclesia D470 model. (www.johannus.com - this site is informative, and shows a video link to this very organ installed overseas).

We were greeted by Dick Pelland, the owner of Pelland Organ Co (maker/restorer of pipe organs), who is on the board of the Boston AGO (American Guild of Organists), and a certified factory rep for Johannus for over 10 years. His thorough explanations of this company and how it reproduces such authentic pipe organ sounds was illuminating. Most of us were amazed that a "dyed in the wool" pipe organ man was so "sold" and enthusiastic about these digital organs. He ably answered questions we had, and helped us understand how this organ could be "voiced" for our own sanctuary, if we pursue an installation.

Then we heard the "demo" pieces installed in the organ. As we sat in the sanctuary, listening to various settings of sound, all 7 of us were amazed that we were listening to a digital organ that sounded like an authentic pipe organ.

Kit Peterson and I had the joy of playing the organ at length, and beginning the "learning curve" of a new instrument and it's capabilities.

In other news, the 7 of us enjoyed a delicious dinner together at a local restaurant, after which some traveled home, and 4 of us continued on to an outstanding evening organ concert at the famed Methuen Memorial Music Hall, which houses a gargantuan pipe organ of over SIX THOUSAND pipes! Oh my. The setting alone was worth the small admission price; but the 21 year old world class organist, Monica Chausz, completely blew us away with her selections and virtuosity on the organ. We have HOPE for our musical future when we hear young people of this caliber, who perform around the world!

Kit, John, Ralph and Holly traveled home weary, but filled with joy at the wonderful aspects of the day together.

Soli Deo Gloria!

Mum Sales

If you saw the huge and beautiful mums offered by the Eastern Lakes Region Housing Coalition the past two years, then you will want to order some for your own garden this Fall. These are New Hampshire grown and will be ready for pick up right here at All Saints' on the morning of Saturday, September 5. These gorgeous plants are the same price as last year and come in four beautiful Fall colors. Proceeds from the sale support the educational and advocacy programs of ELRHC.  To order your plants, contact Carolyn Sundquist, Louise Graham, or Jane Milligan.  Order forms are also available on the bulletin board in the undercroft. This year if you live in Wolfeboro or Tuftonboro, your mums can be delivered right to your door.
