Rector's Reflection
You're Invited

Sunday Jesus invites us to a meal. It is an extraordinary invitation to do an ordinary thing: form bonds of love and community through shared food and drink. Like Wisdom inviting us to the feast of insight (Prov. 9:1-6), Jesus' invitation to share in the meal of his body and blood teaches us about the breadth and depth of God's love and about God's desire for us to abide in that love (John 6:56).

Jesus' audience asks a reasonable question: "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" (John 6:52). Jesus' answer doesn't really address the question; instead, he reiterates that he is the true bread from heaven, the true source of eternal life. This must have been off-putting to his listeners. Eat flesh? Drink blood? And yet, here we find a profoundly grace-filled invitation-abide in me-and a promise: through this meal I abide in you. We are invited to not only join Jesus at the table, but to be at home in the love of God, knowing that Christ makes his home in our hearts and lives too. So come: eat, and get to know God.
Death of Lynn Gustafson
Eternal God, you gave Lynn a new birth in baptism and entrusted her to us to know and to love. As we thank you for the life we shared, help us now to release her to your mighty keeping. Bring us all to that day when we shall stand in your presence with all your saints in light eternal; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Prayers of comfort for the family and friends of Lynn Gustafson who died on August 6th, especially for her sister Lorraine Crocker. Lynn's memorial service will be here at All Saints next Wednesday the 19th, at Noon. You can find a copy of her obituary here:
Pam Liedtke Memorial

Pam Liedtke's Memorial Service is at All Saints on Saturday, August 22nd at 3:00 pm.

Save the Date: Dinner & Live Auction

DINNER AT THE LODGE is the name of the All Saints ECW Dinner and Auction being held at Camp William Lawrence on Friday, September 18th at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will consist of German fare - "Brats to Strudel" and it is a BYOB event. Cost is $35 per person. Parishioners are encouraged to invite family and friends. The event will not be advertised to the general public. Reservations needed by September 7th. A sign-up sheet will be on the board in the undercroft on Sunday or you may call Carolyn Sundquist at 544-2389 or (csundquist@roadrunner.com).

Donations of service-type items are needed for the Live Auction. These items would include items such as hosting a dinner, luncheon or afternoon tea, gardening/yardwork, use of a vacation home, 3-6 pies or cakes, portrait photography, boat ride, etc. We would like to have donations in place by September 1st. This event supports the ministries of the All Saints Episcopal Church Women. We thank everyone for their previous support and hope that you can join us for a fun evening.

Thank You!

The Summer of Bread Sermon Series: Jesus, Maslow, and Bread

August 16, 2015 - John 6:51-58 - Bread is Hope [Esteem]: Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me and I in them. The one who eats this bread will live forever.

August 23, 2015 - John 6:56-69 - Bread is Living Beyond Myself [Self-actualization]: Eat my flesh for eternal life. This is a difficult teaching; who can accept it? Does this bother you? Do you also wish to go away? Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life...

Starting Home Meeting

Please come and support Veterans Housing. Meeting is Monday, August 17th at 10 am at the County Building in Ossipee, on the 2nd floor, at the end closest to Mountainview Community. Folks will be car pooling from All Saints' parking lot at 9 am. The date for this meeting was originally August 10th but has been rescheduled to August 17th.

Sharing God's Blessings:
It's Not About Money
Generosity and stewardship is not about money in the first place. It's about something deeper than that. It's about our image of what it means to be a follower of Jesus. Sure, you may be less stingy than your neighbor. But we're not called to live a little better than the Scrooge down the street. We're not called merely to live debt-free. We're not even called to live like no one else. We're called to live like Jesus.
Blood Drive 9/12
All Saints' sponsors and hosts an American Red Cross blood drive annually. Saturday, September 12th is our date and volunteers are needed to greet donors, register donors, escort them to stations and staff the goodie table. If you are available for even an hour to help out, please contact the church office at 569-3453 or allsaints@metrocast.net. Thank you, Donna
Mum Sales

If you saw the huge and beautiful mums offered by the Eastern Lakes Region Housing Coalition the past two years, then you will want to order some for your own garden this Fall. These are New Hampshire grown and will be ready for pick up right here at All Saints' on the morning of Saturday, September 5. These gorgeous plants are the same price as last year and come in four beautiful Fall colors. Proceeds from the sale support the educational and advocacy programs of ELRHC.  To order your plants, contact Carolyn Sundquist, Louise Graham, or Jane Milligan.  Order forms are also available on the bulletin board in the undercroft. This year if you live in Wolfeboro or Tuftonboro, your mums can be delivered right to your door.

Life Ministries

All Saints is going to be featuring a food monthly that is in need for the Life Ministries Food Pantry. We welcome any and all donations of non-perishable items. August's food is canned soup. Please place donations in the basket in the narthex. Thank you for all donations!
