Jesus' Power Is Enough

Sunday's story of two healings in a single reading appears to present a horrific choice: should Jesus hurry to the dying daughter of a rich man, or pause to heal an outcast woman? The urgency of both requests before him presents a real dilemma, one we might be tempted to resolve in a variety of either/or ways. Either he keeps his commitment to Jairus, or he pauses to help the woman before him who is so obviously suffering. He either helps an important person who can help him further his ministry, or gives help to someone who has no other resource at all.

We see these apparent zero-sum equations in our ministry all the time. The vestry meets over the budget and feels the pull between outreach and giving beyond the congregation and the increasing costs of health care for the church's staff. We as individuals feel these tensions as well: people are sandwiched between the needs of family and ourselves; parents feel stretched to meet their vocational obligations and spend time with their families; students want to serve others but feel pressed to just get their own work done.

Of course, in the face of Jesus' power, none of these really are either/or propositions, even though they seem like dead ends. In Mark's gospel, Jesus' power is enough to provide new life for both the rich man's daughter and the poor woman. How often do we assume that God's power is not enough to bring life out of the seemingly impossible choices we make? We are challenged to open up the interruptions and hard choices of our lives to Jesus' power to bring life out of death.

We include a healing rite at both 8:00 + 10:00 am worship this Sunday.
Summer Fair July 18 - UPDATE!

Only three more weeks until the Fair! If you still have items to contribute, please bring them in as soon as possible preferably between 9:00 am and noon weekdays. Again, no televisions, computers or microwaves. Use your good judgment. The sorters are to be commended for their diligence, persistence and camaraderie! Thank you all!

We would like to also remind you about the Fair Angels. Our goal is to arrive on the 18th having met our expenses. If you are unable to help as a worker, please consider a donation made payable to All Saints with a notation "Fair Angel".

With gratitude, Susie and Peter

Sharing God's Blessings:
Give Proportionally

Proportional giving is our way of giving in relation to our abundance. We are to give in accordance with our "means," not our income or budget. "If the eagerness is there, the gift is accepted according to what one has-not according to what one does not have." 2 Corinthians 8:12

Education for Ministry Open House

EfM provides a 4-year curriculum that develops a theologically informed laity prepared to listen for and respond to God's call. EfM helps lay persons discover and exercise their varied gifts for ministry wherever they live and work.  Through study, prayer, and reflection, EfM helps participants move toward a new understanding of the connections between their faith and their lives. The seminar group, consisting of 6-12 participants and a trained mentor, meets weekly for 36 weeks. Participants are given weekly reading assignments. If you are interested in learning more, please attend an Open House at Trinity, Meredith on Tuesday, July 14, at 2:30 p.mSessions will run September through June on Tuesday afternoons. Please call  Robin Soller at 279-6689 for more information.

Canning Jars

If you are in need of regular and wide mouth quart canning jars, please contact the church office. We have 20.

Building and Grounds Needs
Pick-up Truck Adventurer & Painters Needed

We have a couple of needs that if you are interested, please contact our Junior Warden Andy Milligan at handyandy@metrocast.net , or our Parish Administrator Donna Young at allsaints@metrocast.net:

  • The vestry has approved the purchase of a new metal donation bin for Lord and Tailor, but is is need of saving the $600 delivery charge-so if you have (or could borrow) a pick-up truck, are traveling to or through northern New Jersey, or just are looking for a bit of a road trip adventure, God just might be calling you!
  • The main All Saints' building has 5 entry porticos that have weathered and need painting-so if you love the outdoors, have some time to give (or just want to get out of the house) and know which end of a paint brush to hold, God just might be calling you to paint one or more of these!
What's in Your Basket?

Raffle Baskets will again be a part of the Summer Fair. Please contact Jan Smith or Carolyn Sundquist if you would be able to donate a basket or if you need some ideas. There will also be sign-up sheets on the board in the undercroft. In order to start selling raffle tickets before the fair it would be helpful to have the baskets as soon as possible - by 6/28 if possible. Many thanks to those who gave so generously in previous years!

Starting Point

This Sunday, June 28 at 1PM All Saints member Steve Day will be directing/producing a short TV ad with Robert Pierpont for Starting Home Veterans Transitional Services at the old Mountain View Nursing Home (located immediately behind the new nursing home at 93 Water Village Road, Ossipee NH). If you are a veteran and have no plans for a couple of hours Steve and Robert would love to have you there to show your support. If you still have your uniform from your service that would be great if you could wear it. If you can only find parts of it that's okay, too. And if you can't find/fit into any of it that's still fine. A veteran is still a veteran. You don't need to do anything other than show up and stand alongside our group's leadership for this noble cause. Starting Home is a non-profit 501(C)(3) committed to providing transitional housing for qualified homeless veterans.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) estimates that 49,933 veterans are homeless on any given night. According to Harbor Homes, Inc in Nashua, NH, roughly 367 homeless citizens are in Carroll County alone and of that number approximately 37 are veterans, and that number is rising. Since Carroll County still does not have a homeless shelter the actual numbers are difficult to quantify however the Friends Of Veterans Vt and NH (www.friendsofveteransvtnh.org) estimates 9.5% of the total veteran population in New Hampshire is homeless on any given night.

You can learn more about Starting Home at www.vethousecc.org. If you have any questions about the TV ad you can call Steve Day at 603-834-8751.
