Rector's Reflections

In the Gospel reading Sunday, Mark asks us to take seriously the power of evil present in our world. But we are to take more seriously and trust with all who follow and do the will of God, that it is Jesus who embodies the power of God. Jesus work of casting out demons is ascribed as demonic, or from the devil. Mark warns that blasphemy, ascribing to the devil that which is divine, is a sin that cannot be forgiven. Thankfully this contrasts with other biblical passages that indicate that God will always forgive.

We do have a tendency thought to judge those we see as somehow "possessed" by demons, those who abuse alcohol, drugs, or others sexually or violently. We demonize others as monsters and condemn them by ostracizing them in the media, in prisons, and even through murderous retribution. Some would say Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon Bombing monster got what he deserved with the federal death sentence.

If we are made in God's image (and God says we are), we cannot be monsters. If we do the will of God, we are called to cast out demons and bring healing, not called to demonize, judge, or  kill one another. Christian singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens reminds us we are both saint and sinner in his bold and haunting song "John Wayne Gacy, Jr." about the serial killer...

"....And in my best behavior I am really just like him.
Look beneath the floor boards for the secrets I have hid."

It is easy to demonize others especially when they do evil, but Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn reminds us that "the line between good and evil runs through our hearts." Thankfully, Jesus casts out all your demons, forgives all the secrets you have hid, and loves you no matter how many saintly or sinful things you have done, because you are a child of God, made in god's image.

Photo Directories are in!

Photo Directories are In! If you participated in the photo directory, please pick up your directory in the back of the church. Each directory has the parishioners name on it. If you were not able to participate, and wish to receive a directory, please write your name on the list on bulletin board in the parish hall and we will see that you have one reserved for you. We only received a small number of extra directories. If you have any questions, please contact Donna in the office. Thank you.

Sharing God's Blessings:
Sacrifice Proportionally

As Jesus sacrificed for us on the cross, we are to sacrifice proportionally for him. For our sake Jesus gave up everything to make us rich through the cross and resurrection. We are called to sacrifice so others can share in God's word and blessings. "...gave according to their means, and even beyond their means." 2 Corinthians 8:3

Summer Fair July 18

The sign up sheets for the Booths have been posted in the Undercroft. Please add your name to the booth which interests you. Today after the 10:00 am service, the undercroft will be set up and ready for donations. Strong arms are needed to move the items from the garage to the undercroft. The more hands, the quicker the move. Sorting of items will begin in earnest on Monday, June 8th. Any questions, call Susie and Peter Walker (H) 603-544-3199 (cell) 516-375-4099, Many thanks.

Summer Fair Chairs Meet

Phil Wasmuth captured some moments from last Sundays meeting with Summer Fair Chairs, Pete & Susie Walker, and the Booth Chairs. It's just around the corner now!

What's in Your Basket?

Raffle Baskets will again be a part of the Summer Fair. Please contact Jan Smith or Carolyn Sundquist if you would be able to donate a basket or if you need some ideas. There will also be sign-up sheets on the board in the undercroft. In order to start selling raffle tickets before the fair it would be helpful to have the baskets as soon as possible - by 6/28 if possible. Many thanks to those who gave so generously in previous years!

Music for Life Recital

On WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17th at 6:45 PM the All Saints family is invited to join Holly Simons and the students of her "Music For Life" studio for an evening of sharing a variety of piano and vocal music. You will enjoy some of our own parishioners sharing their talents and the results of their ongoing musical studies. Light refreshments will be served in the library following the presentations. If you think you'd like to attend, please email Holly at holly.simons@gmail.com and let her know.

LEM Meeting 6/28

Eucharistic Ministers Meeting will be held between services in the library on Sunday, June 28th.

Women's Bible Study

Women's Bible Study will began on Monday, June 1st, at 1:00pm at All Saints' Episcopal Church in the Stevens Room. The topic-style study is entitled "Seasons Of Life", authored by Rev, Charles R. (Chuck) Swindoll. It is an all time favorite, with various Scriptures that we will discuss in class for our one hour session each week. If you have any friends, family or neighbor ladies who may be interested, please invite them to join us, ALL are welcome. No special church affiliation, background or advanced knowledge is necessary, this is an interesting, contemporary and fun study for anyone - it's just one beggar telling another where to find bread, The Bread of Life!

Thank you,

Joyce Lake
