The Holy Spirit's Groaning

Few sounds capture a groan like birth pangs. It is the raw sound of life and birth as well as of pain. It is the guttural desire for the end of the waiting for what has been anticipated and desired.  It is in equal parts beautiful, stunning, and holy, as well as raw, painful, and horrific. "Creation has been groaning in labor pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves . . . groan inwardly while we wait for adoption," writes Paul to the church in Rome. He describes aptly that painful wail of our souls for the redemption we know so well, the restoration of all things promised in Christ.

The Day of Pentecost is a birth day and baptism day for God's Church. We are given the Advocate, the Holy Spirit to prepare for the return of the Messiah and be empowered to be God's hand and voice for all creation, groaning for restoration. We join this creation waiting for our own hearts, souls, and bodies to be restored. We know this is coming and as in pains of labor groan for this reality. We are baptized in the Spirit of God to do this work as God brings about the birth of a new world and a new reality.

So wear red on Sunday and come to worship and experience the wind, breath, fire and Spirit of God blowing through, in and among us on the day of Pentecost. See you in worship!

Snowbirds are Back!
by Phil Wasmuth

I know this is semantics as it was a pot luck dinner, but I felt that the snowbirds should have been honoring those who stayed and endured the long cold winter.  Nevertheless the pot luck  dinner  welcoming back the snowbirds last Friday evening was a wonderful event as friendships were rekindled.

Anne Hunt asked me to put together a slide show for the event. Just click on the web site to see a 5 minute slide show that covers some of the events at our church from Advent to Easter this year.  I know you'll love the slide show and hymns that are with the photos.

Again, thanks to Anne and the hospitality committee for a wonderful evening. Best wishes and much love to those who consider All Saints' their home.

Phil

From the Music Corner

This spring has been an exciting time for percolating ideas and direction for our musical life at All Saints. The largest inspiration for me has been concrete steps in the direction of eventually purchasing a new organ. Ralph and I were able to visit the incredible showroom of Steinert & Sons (pianos and Rodgers organs) in Natick, Mass. in late April. The Youtube video link below (a huge THANK YOU to husband Ralph!) is well worth watching for a taste of that time together.  You will also see the picture of myself with our Rodgers representative, Michael-Thomas Gilman, who has been so helpful in our discernment process as we explore the best instrument for our musical future at All Saints.

Then, on Saturday May 16th, Ralph, Michael-Thomas and myself were able to offer a short presentation to Pastor Bill and our gathered vestry, as they were meeting on retreat in Laconia.  It was a special time together, where information and questions were considered and exchanged.  Although we are just beginning this process, I am hopeful and encouraged that we will see our gracious God bring together the resources and final decisions around worship arts in His perfect timing and wisdom. Your prayers and support are deeply appreciated, and your questions and desire for information are welcome.

Soli Deo Gloria!
Holly

Sharing God's Blessings:
We are God's Stewards

Our role as God's stewards is one of many dimensions - grateful, responsible, self-sacrificing, willing, sharing, proportionate, committed, regular, genuine, and challenged. By generously giving of ourselves, we discover joy in Christ. "...you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." 2 Corinthians 9:7

Outreach Luncheon Thursday, 5/28

The last Outreach Luncheon for the spring will be held this Thursday, 5/28 at Noon, volunteers are needed for setup, serving and cleanup. Please contact Marge Morris 569-6073 or Sandi Johnson 496-3772, if you are available. Thank you.

Summer Fair July 18

There will be a meeting of all the booth chairs at 9:15 am between services on Sunday, May 31. We look forward to planning for this Summer's Fair! The undercroft will be set up after the 10:00 am service on Sunday, June 7th. Strong arms and willing workers are appreciated! Sorting of donated items will begin in earnest on Monday, June 8th. If possible, please wait to make donations until that time. Sign -up sheets for the booths have been posted on the bulletin board in the undercroft. If you are unable to attend or have any questions or suggestions, call Susie or Peter Walker (544-3199). As relative newcomers, we welcome your valuable input and assistance. Thank you!

Women's Bible Study

Women's Bible Study will begin on Monday, June 1st, at 1:00pm at All Saints' Episcopal Church in the Stevens Room. The topic-style study is entitled "Seasons Of Life", authored by Rev, Charles R. (Chuck) Swindoll. It is an all time favorite, with various Scriptures that we will discuss in class for our one hour session each week. If you have any friends, family or neighbor ladies who may be interested, please invite them to join us, ALL are welcome. No special church affiliation, background or advanced knowledge is necessary, this is an interesting, contemporary and fun study for anyone - it's just one beggar telling another where to find bread, The Bread of Life!

Thank you,

Joyce Lake

Volunteer Driver Needed

A mother from Wolfeboro is looking for a ride to Tilton each Saturday or Sunday from 1 pm until 3 pm. If anyone is willing to drive her there and back, please contact the church office.

ITO Ingathering May 31

All Saints invites all parishioners to bring in the contents of their "Blue Boxes" for the semi-annual Ingathering of the United Thank Offering, Sunday, May 31. These coins (or a check for the amount of the coins) represent Episcopalians' daily expressions of thanksgiving for their blessings. Many keep their Blue Box on the dresser and deposit coins into it at the end of the day. Each June, a church-wide UTO committee reviews applications and makes grants from the total funds collected. One recipient was an isolated parish in the South that needed a used van to transport youth to various church events. Years ago, our own parish received a grant to fund our first electric lift for worshippers and visitors with disabilities to access the sanctuary from the ground floor. These Ingatherings total close to $2 million each year and assist evangelism, hospitality and mission goals at home and abroad.

Life Ministries

All Saints is going to be featuring a food monthly that is in need for the Life Ministries Food Pantry. We welcome any and all donations of non-perishable items. May's food is dry spaghetti. Please place donations in the basket in the narthex. Thank you for all donations!

The Art of Last Things: Conversations and Resources for Living and Dying
From May 1st through June 16 we will be hosting an art exhibit and series of presentations titled The Art of Last Things: Conversations and Resources for Living and Dying Well. It will feature the work of internationally known fiber artist Deidre Scherer. During this time we will also be sponsoring a series of educational presentations by local professionals who will talk about Legal Issues, Financial Planning, Funeral and End-of-Life Rituals, Medical/Hospice and Palliative Care, and Grief and Bereavement, with a keynote address by Scherer on June 16.

The series of conversations will take place on Tuesdays May 26, June 2, 9, and 16 from 4-6pm in the sanctuary.   We are looking for volunteers to be docents to host the art exhibit. Docents shifts will be Mon-Fri 9-12pm, Tues 12-4pm, Sat-Sun 1-4pm. To sign-up, or for more information contact Peggy Carlson (978) 835-4870, carlsonpeggy1@gmail.com.
