First Nite Spaghetti Dinner

The committee preparing for this fundraiser for the church is looking for monetary Donations. Money is needed to purchase all of the items needed to make the dinner. This is one of our most popular fundraisers. There will be a sign up sheet on the bulletin board in the parish hall and checks are to be made out to All Saints'. Thank you.

Thank You from Huggins Hospital

We would like to express our gratitude for the generosity and support during a time of need for a patient. Without hesitation clothing was provided free of charge. A woman in the shop immediately stepped up and assisted us with selection. It was a true act of kindness. Sheryl Savage and Victoria Maikett.

Updating of Homebound Parishioners and Friends
If you know of anyone that would benefit from receiving flowers from our delivery team, please contact the church office. Thank you.
Tree Help Needed

A community member and his wife who heats with wood are in need of help cutting several felled trees at their home. If you have a chain saw and/or could split and stack firewood, please speak with Donna or Pastor Bill. Thank you.

We Make the Road By Walking

This weekly class is held each Wednesday at 3 pm and 7 pm. If you wish to attend the 7 pm session, please email Bill at pastorbillpetersen@gmail.com.

How to Join All Saints
Just show up. OK, this may not be the only requirement, but it is by far, the most important one. Many Episcopal parishes are intentionally vague about assigning membership. We don't want to be known as places where weekly attendance is taken, annual contributions are tabulated, and your membership is assigned only if you pass muster. We are much less concerned about counting the people who are in, than we are about leaving someone out. Baptism in this or any Christian church, confirmation or reception by a bishop of the Episcopal Church or of a church in communion of the Episcopal  Church (expected of all adult members), attendance, reception of Holy communion, and some sort of financial commitment. Of course, some people claim membership to our churches because a long-lost relative once attended, and this is fine by us. We believe the church should reflect the open and accepting arms of Jesus. Church School in Advent

From the Music Corner

A blessed Advent to our All Saints family!  The gift of excellent and beloved music radiates through Advent, Christmas and Epiphany.  For a delightful listening experience, click on "Youtube" and type in "Advent Choral Music"; then choose the gifts of choir colleges and chorale groups all over the world from England to Scandinavia to St. Olaf's in Wisconsin. Another fabulous gift is viewing any of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Christmas extravaganzas online.  Goosebumps and Glory!

In our own services, listen this month for those 12th and 13th century plainsongs in our services such as "O Come, O Come Emmanuel",  "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence",  "Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming" and "Of the Father's Love Begotten".  Our hearts resonate with the plaintive ache of waiting and longing as we sing and listen to these stirring texts and melody lines. We add variety with more recently composed offerings such as "God Comes to Us" and "Emmanuel" (sung by the choir every Advent week during Eucharist... sing with us from the pews as you desire!).

This week, I close sharing one of my favorite Advent quotes, from Madeleine L'Engle in "Bright Evening Star: Mystery of the Incarnation" :

Was there a moment, known only to God,
when all the stars held their breath,
when the galaxies paused in their dance for a fraction of a second,
and the Word, who had called it all into being,
went with all his love into the womb of a young girl,
and the universe started to breathe again,
and the ancient harmonies resumed their song,
and the angels clapped their hands for joy?

Soli Deo Gloria!
Holly
