Sunday Services

8:00 a.m. - Holy Eucharist

10:00 a.m. - Holy Eucharist with Choir

From the Rector

On Sunday we heard that Peter was the "rock" on which Christ builds the church (Matt. 16:18), but this week when Jesus reveals the suffering that will come first, Peter becomes a bit of a "block head" and "stumbling block." Good ol' Pete protests Jesus' suffering and death, assuming (and we know what happens when we do that) God has a different plan to save creation other than the cross. Jesus then tries to explain it to Peter (and disciples from those original twelve to you and me) that it is the cross that is the way to life-and that Jesus (and we too) must lose one's life in order to find it.

But you and I are like Peter, we like life just the way it is, thank you very much. And so evil and sin rear their ugly head working on us as we search for a way to avoid losing ourselves. To maintain our lifestyles, we seek self-satisfying, comfortable paths instead of surrendering everything ("our" selves, things and time) to Jesus, the one we follow. It is those very things we hoard and hold onto, instead of trusting our abundant God, that cause us to be "block heads" and "stumbling blocks" just like good ol' Pete.

Come worship on Sunday as we wrestle with our understanding of suffering, death and losing one's life versus the resurrection and new life that God promises when we take up the cross and follow him. God who becomes human in Jesus to experience our human brokenness and pain, loses his very own life for the sake of you, me and all creation. Come taste and see this Sunday...

Community Prayer Service for James Foley -
September 7th

Wolfeboro Area Clergy invite you to an ecumenical prayer service in memory of James Foley. We will gather to pray for his family and all who mourn on Sunday afternoon, September 7th at 2:00 pm at St. Katharine Drexel Church. In the meantime, All Saints is open for prayer days and evenings and Pastor Bill is available to meet and pray with individuals and groups as well.

Merciful Creator, your Holy Spirit intercedes for us even when we do not know how to pray. Send your Spirit now to comfort us in these days of need and loss, and help us to commend James  to your merciful care; support us all the day long of this troubled life, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes and the busy world is hushed, the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then, in your mercy, grant us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen

Faith Formation Opportunity

You and your family, friends and neighbors are invited to join us for: "We make the road by walking... a year-long quest for spiritual formation, reorientation, and activation" on Wednesdays at 3:00 pm or 7:00 pm starting September 10th. Bring your bible, materials will be handed-out and readings posted here weekly so you can follow if you miss a week (or go away for a month or more) as we gather in the Library. P.S. Don't forget to share the invitation, all are welcome (that means believers, doubters, questioners, and you)!

 From the Music Corner

Here is the lovely dedication placque now firmly in place on our Kurzweil keyboard.  How blessed we are!

Also, a contingency of 13 All Saint's folks helped to pack out First Congregational Church for the Inaugural Concert on their new Rodgers Infinity 243 organ this past Wednesday evening. To say Maestro Hector Olivera "blew us all away" in this concert is an understatement!   Thursday morning, John Bybee of Rodgers/Steinert gave a tremendous organ demonstration for a dozen local organists/musicians, followed by lunch at the Downtown Grille, and a second visit to All Saints (Ralph, Holly and Kit P) for discussion of worship arts visioning, and an evaluation of our own Rodgers organ.  It has been an inspiring week to be a music lover in Wolfeboro!

Soli Deo Gloria!
