From the Rector

The gospel story from Matthew this week is about the disciples in a boat on a very stormy sea.  Jesus walks on water to be with them and calm their fears. The story reminds me of being terrified by storms as a child, scared by severe lightning, and all the times I've been caught in a storm while in a boat. For all of God's children afraid of things like a storm, the good news is that Jesus is always there, walking with us. Jesus is not drowned by the waves. He says, "Do not be afraid."

The old song, "Stand by Me" reminds us of Jesus' presence as we encounter the storms of life:

When the storms of life are raging, stand by me;

When the storms of life are raging, stand by me.

When the world is tossing me, like a ship upon the sea,

Lord, who rules the wind and water, stand by me.

A great reflection from Umilta of Faenza, one of the Mothers of the Church, also reflects the gospel this week:

O Jesus, gentle love, you who are the true and complete peace in every discord, bring peace and concord to every conflict. Let my enemies come, who in the world are so numerous; but if I feel myself to be with you, I overthrow them all, and the world itself I overthrow. I am like a fish that rests in the sea; when the waves sweep over it and the great tempests assail it, the fish enjoys swimming, because it cannot be captured, and it leaps more nimbly. Thus do I in this world that is a troubled sea: the great currents arise, and I sail below them, and I take shelter in your bosom, and let them pass by. Feeling myself with you I have no fear of the currents. But if I do not possess you, I am like the whale that when the tide goes out sits on the sand and is condemned to death, because without the tide it no longer has the chance to escape.

[Umilta of Faenza, tr. Richard J. Piolo, in Medieval Women's Visionary Literature, ed. Elizabeth Alvilda Petroff (NY: Oxford, 1986), 251.]

May you remember that Jesus stands with you in all the storms of life. See you in worship!

Summer Fair

A FINAL MESSAGE FROM THE SUMMER FAIR CHAIRS: As of July 27th, the net income from the Fair was $17,818. This is expected to be revised upwards as money is still coming in, and a few expenses are still outstanding. The final total will be reported when we have it. It was our pleasure to chair the Fair this year and its success was due to all who worked so hard. Thank you for all your help and support.

Pam and Harry

JEWELRY THANKS: I would like to thank the very hard working women who helped make the jewelry room possible. With out Harry and Pam suggesting Joane Z. to work with us we'd never have finished - her energy and ideas kept us all going. Prue Fitts and Arlene S. both working other booths spent hours helping us prepare. Of course Lynne S. & Margaret B. two of jewelry's mainstays - worked hard preparing and on fair day worked harder.

And after the fair Margaret and her granddaughter Natalie (who's worked several years with us in jewelry) plus Lynne S. worked so hard Monday packing and wrapping & making signs for all the jewelry totes and packages as well as packing all the crafts - this clean up may be a tiny bit easier then set up but not by much.

I would like to acknowledge these generous and hard working women who every year make jewelry the success it is, from the bottom of my heart I thank you without you this would not be possible. Also I need to thank Jane M. for the very needed and appreciated welcome wagon of coffee and treats on Monday.

Thank you all so much -

kathleen codyrachel

A Gentle Reminder

Dear brothers and sisters of All Saints,

At our parish finance committee meeting last month, we learned from Treasurer Don Hargy that pledge income to date is significantly below the actual pledges we made at the beginning of the year. As we prepare to welcome our new rector, the Rev. Bill Petersen, you are invited to take a look at what you pledged and, insofar as possible, bring it up to date. We would like to have the welcome mat out for Bill in all the ways we can to help get our parish family and its new pastor off to the best start possible, together. As you know, a pledge may be adjusted up or down at any time, upon notification to the parish treasurer.

If you have any questions, please call Parish Administrator Donna Young or Treasurer Don Hargy.  Thanks.

 From the Music Corner

This coming Sunday, August 10th, be sure to welcome our guest musicians at the post-service 10 AM coffee hour!   Here's a short bio on these gifted sisters.

Amanda and Jessica Hiittner, from Moultonborough, have been musically gifted from childhood.   Amanda plays piano, guitar, ukulele, sings and is a creative songwriter.  Jessica plays violin, guitar, ukelele, sings and also aids the creative songwriting process.   They write and play to glorify their Lord Jesus Christ, and serve Him with the gifts He has given them.

Amanda will be entering her junior year at Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass. and Jessica will be entering the same college as a freshman this fall. This past spring they released their first professional CD entitled "Hold On", with all original music.  Their release concert was held at Moultonborough Academy in late May to a large and enthusiastic crowd.

Please welcome them after the service downstairs at the coffee hour, where their CD will be available for purchase.

And, a reminder about next week.....

August 17th - The Kurzweil keyboard will be down front, highlighting different sounds throughout our service, and Kingswood senior Stacey Kelleher will share a solo entitled "Every Season".  Available choir members will also aid in hymn singing and communion music.

Quilters' Fundraiser for Children's Advocacy Center

The Ladies of the Lakes Quilters' Guild (LLQG), a non-profit organization of 160 Winnipesaukee quilters, is sponsoring a Quilt Sale on Friday and Saturday, August 8 & 9, from 10am - 4pm, at All Saints. All quilts and quilt-related items are donated by LLQG with one-hundred percent (100% )of the proceeds donated to the Children's Advocacy Center of Carroll County (CACCC).

With offices in Wolfeboro and Conway, the CACCC is a non-profit agency that relies on the generosity of donors in the Lakes Region to fund its operations. The CACCC seeks to minimize the trauma that child abuse victims and their non-offending family members experience by working with a team of professionals to provide a collaborative approach to child abuse investigations. These services are available and used by all of Carroll County's Law Enforcement Agencies, the Carroll County Attorney's Office, and the NH Division of Children, Youth, and Families.

Since the inception of the CACCC in 2006, more than 700 children and their non-offending caregivers have been served by the Center.  The CACCC is also home to Westin, New Hampshire's first Child Advocacy Center Facility dog.

Please visit the sale on August 8 & 9 to purchase a beautiful homemade quilt or a quilted item at very reasonable prices to support the good work of the CACCC.
