Special Musical Guest

This Sunday, please welcome our guest trumpeter, D. Randall Ouellette, currently living in Conway, NH with his wife Jennifer, and their adorable toddler Declan. Randy completed his graduate studies at Temple University under the tutelage of Robert Early and Jeffery Curnow of the Philadelphia Orchestra.  He has also traveled extensively in Europe, performed under Grammy award-winning conductor Dr. Robert Page, and recorded with the Eastern Wind Symphony under the Klavier and Masters labels with Alfred Reed. Recently, Randy has been appointed as the associate principal trumpet with the New Hampshire Philharmonic Orchestra. He freelances across New England and also the New Jersey tri-state area for such noted individuals as Anthony Cardinal Bevilacqua, former Archbishop of Philadelphia. Randy has also enjoyed performing at nationally recognized venues such as the National Constitution Center, and Capital Center for Performing Arts. Randy teaches extensively, and has seen many students go on to recognized awards and ensembles. He is currently teaching at the North Conway Music Center.

RSC Update

Greetings from the Rector Search Committee,

In the light of Ted's announcement of his retirement at the end of June, the Rector Search Committee wants to assure you that we continue to work diligently to identify the right person to be the next settled rector of All Saints.  We have reviewed new resumes and have begun the interview process with several attractive candidates.  Hannah Anderson, Canon to the Ordinary, and Bishop Hirschfeld are actively supporting our search.  We greatly appreciate your encouragement and prayers as we and candidates discern whether or not the "call" is manifest.  We trust that the Spirit will guide all of us to the successful call of a new rector at All Saints.

Blessings,

Tom Wilson, Chair

Lay Leadership Institute 5/3/14

The 2014 Lay Leadership Institute is being held on Saturday, May 3rd from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Rundlett Middle School, Concord. All members of the congregation willing to work in the governance and ministries of the church, as well as all members of vestries, bishop's committees, and church committees and the clergy who support the laity in their ministries - are encouraged to enroll in the diocesan program dedicated to the preparation and formation of our congregational leaders.

Easter Season Services

Palm Sunday (4/13) The liturgy of the palms and the reading of the passion narrative mark this day's observance of both joy and sadness. Palms will be distributed at both services and the 10:00 a.m. worship will begin with the traditional Palm Sunday procession from the undercroft. There will be a trumpeter at both services.

Maundy Thursday (4/17) dinner/service at 7:00 pm- This evening service will be an informal Last Supper with connection to the traditional Jewish Sabbath meal and/or Seder in the undercroft. The symbolic washing of feet will be included as well as special, highly participatory, Holy Week learning centers for children and families. This service will conclude with the stripping of the altar in the quiet and darkened church.

Good Friday (4/18) 12:00 pm All Saints, Wolfeboro- There will be an hour long ecumenical service at All Saints' of solemn collects, scripture readings and organ music.  Central to this service is a particularly beautiful chanting of the Passion Gospel according to St. John and the bringing in of a large wooden cross.

Good Friday (4/18) 7:30 pm 1st Congregational Church - All Saints has been invited to join in their service at the Pinckney Boathouse on Brewster Campus.

Easter Vigil, Saturday (4/19) at 7:00 pm The drama of the Great Vigil begins with a bonfire, a tradition started by St. Patrick of Ireland, and then proceeds into the darkened church for the procession of the Paschal Candle. Much of the service is conducted by candlelight symbolizing our waiting for the new light of Easter and ends with the reaffirmation of our baptismal vows and the first Eucharist of Easter. This will be a child friendly service with the bonfire and candles, lessons told as stories rather than read, shells for each child from the baptismal waters and a participatory Eucharist. We will be baptizing a baby during this year's service.

Easter Sunday (4/20) services will be at 8 am and 10 am, please come and enjoy the trumpet, music and the Easter peacock.

From the Music Corner

We approach Holy Week with trepidation and anticipation, and the music on this coming Palm Sunday certainly reflects the shifting moods.  We celebrate the triumphal entry of Christ into Jerusalem by processing from the undercroft waving palms; and with upbeat hymns accompanied by piano, organ and trumpet.  The choir "rocks out" on a gospel style anthem entitled "Ain't No Rock Gonna Shout For Me", based on the Luke 19 version of the Pharisees telling Jesus to rebuke His disciples for shouting and celebrating at his Jerusalem entry. Jesus replied, "I tell you, if they keep quiet, the very stones will cry out."

Then the mood shifts in our service, as we approach communion and begin the journey of following Christ into His week of brutal suffering. "Ah, Holy Jesus" is sung by all, and soon the colors of the altar are changed from purple to red, and we leave the service in silence.

Our church offers many services this coming week to remember these holy days; do choose one or more to attend to enhance your own reflections in this season.

Soli Deo Gloria!

Holly

Faith and Science... on the SAME Planet

The Congregational church will be hosting this 4-week course and has invited All Saints to participate. It will be held in our library from 4:00 pm until 5:15 pm every Tuesday in May. What can we learn from the Bible and Biblical Scholars? How do we make sense out of the scientific literature and what Christians are saying about science? What are some of the latest publications saying about the controversy? Do we have to make a choice between believing in evolution and believing in our Christian faith? Come one, come all and let's wrestle with the current news and challenging issues of science and religion. Instructors:  David Van Arsdale and Adam Van Arsdale.

Dave Van Arsdale has been a pastor for 40 years serving churches in five states including the last 8 years as the Pastor at Faith Presbyterian Church in Sun City, AZ. Dave and his wife Ellen retired a year ago and are spending the summer of 2014 in Wolfeboro.  Adam is a professor of Anthropology at Wellesley College and recently complete a 12-week internet class on Human Evolution. Adam and Helene live in Wellesley and have taught at Wellesley College since 2008.
