The 2014 Lay Leadership Institute is being held on Saturday, May 3rd from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Rundlett Middle School, Concord. All members of the congregation willing to work in the governance and ministries of the church, as well as all members of vestries, bishop's committees, and church committees and the clergy who support the laity in their ministries - are encouraged to enroll in the diocesan program dedicated to the preparation and formation of our congregational leaders.

From the Music Corner

THANK YOU to all who shared the combined worship service with us last Sunday, with the "None Other Lamb" musical sermon being offered.  We give glory to God, and continue to hear wonderful remarks of the Spirit's blessing on all who attended.  It is now a special memory, with hopes that more times of musical collaboration will be in our future.  In fact, 3 choirs are being offered an opportunity to join in the Good Friday ecumenical service at 12 noon here at All Saints.  Andy Campbell will be rehearsing some of us to participate in the plain chant singing of "St. John's Passion". Join us!

Sunday, April 6th:  We continue the Lenten meditation with the choir singing a lovely "Agnus Dei Canon" sung in Latin (with translation in the bulletin).  Priscilla Theberge and Anne Bullitt will offer the lovely reflective hymn "Be Still, My Soul" ("Finlandia" tune by Jean Sibelius) during our communion time.

Our All Saints choir will have a rehearsal for some exciting Palm Sunday and Easter anthems. Our guest trumpeter, Randy Ouellette, will be joining us to make these services special.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Soli Deo Gloria!

Holly

CityReach Trip - Used Clothing Needed

Members of the youth group will be participating in CityReach, an overnight urban outreach program on the weekend of April 11. They will have an opportunity to learn firsthand about homelessness from people who have experienced it. Prior to the trip, they will be gathering together used  clean clothing to take with them. There will be a collection bin at the back of the church for donations for comfortable, rugged clothing, mostly men's large sizes, spring to summer weight.  Hooded sweatshirts and sweat pant are good examples.

The Wolfeboro Senior Center will once again be hosting the AARP Smart Driver Course, this is brand new revision to the course. It will be held here at All Saints' on Monday, May 12th from 9 am until 4 pm. The course is now being instructed in one session (6 hours) instead of two (previously it was 8 hours). Lunch will be offered at the senior center. Please call the church office if you wish to sign up. Cost is $15 for AARP members and $20 for anyone else.

Faith and Science... on the SAME Planet

The Congregational church will be hosting this 4-week course and has invited All Saints to participate. It will be held in our library from 4:00 pm until 5:15 pm every Tuesday in May. What can we learn from the Bible and Biblical Scholars? How do we make sense out of the scientific literature and what Christians are saying about science? What are some of the latest publications saying about the controversy? Do we have to make a choice between believing in evolution and believing in our Christian faith? Come one, come all and let's wrestle with the current news and challenging issues of science and religion. Instructors:  David Van Arsdale and Adam Van Arsdale.

Dave Van Arsdale has been a pastor for 40 years serving churches in five states including the last 8 years as the Pastor at Faith Presbyterian Church in Sun City, AZ. Dave and his wife Ellen retired a year ago and are spending the summer of 2014 in Wolfeboro.  Adam is a professor of Anthropology at Wellesley College and recently complete a 12-week internet class on Human Evolution. Adam and Helene live in Wellesley and have taught at Wellesley College since 2008.

In Case You Missed It: A Message from Ted

(This message was sent via eNews on Wednesday, April 4. It is repeated here for anyone who may have missed it.)

Dear Friends,

"The time has come," the Walrus said,

"To talk of many things:

Of shoes--and ships--and sealing-wax--

Of cabbages--and kings

- Lewis Carroll

I am sorry I am not talking to you in person, but I have to share some news about my time with you as your interim rector.

Over the last several months my wife Pat Stelz and I have been trying to get our landlord to extend the lease of the condo we rent at Pine Harbor. Those efforts have proved fruitless and, even should we eventually be provided a short extension of the lease, I have realized that it is time for me to retire from full-time ministry and move to my next stage in life and service.

This is proving a difficult decision for me to make and particularly so since All Saints has not as yet called its next rector. I had hoped and prayed that I could continue ministry with you until that work was accomplished. It may still happen while I am with you. Bishop Rob and Canon Anderson are determined to find well qualified candidates to refer to our rector search committee and have assured me that, should you not be able to call a rector prior to June 30th, 2014, my last day as your interim, they will have put together a most capable team to be with you as your clergy companions during the final stages of the search process.

This is a wonderful parish and I have deeply appreciated working with you its members and leaders. The work you do of caring for others and sharing the Good News of the Gospel in your daily and community lives continues to amaze and uplift my spirts and feed my hope for the future of parish ministry and the Church. As St. Paul wrote many generations ago referring to another group of dedicated Christians, you have all the gifts, talents and faith you need for the work of ministry and spreading of God's reign.

Pat and I intend to settle in New Hampshire, somewhat further south than Wolfeboro, perhaps between Concord and the ocean.

This has been a wonderful time of living and growing for us and both Pat and I are deeply grateful for the time we have had with you.  We have a number of months still....

May God continue to bless us all in our life together.

Yours in Christ Jesus,

The Rev. Edward G. Rice

Interim-Rector
