Vestry Candidate Biographies 2014

Susan Fuller - I was born into the Christian faith, a PK (Preacher's Kid) of a United Church of Christ pastor at his first church in Rochester, NY. At age 13, we moved to California where I lived for the next 17 years. My connection to Wolfeboro comes from the summers I spent in Melvin Village with my family at my grandmother's cottage. I settled here in 1987 after I married. I have two sons who are grown. My professional life has included exercise physiologist, second grade teacher (at Ossipee CS), program director of the short-lived Wolfeboro Area YMCA, Christian Education director at First Congregational Church, Wolfeboro and at All Saints' Church. Currently, I work at the Wolfeboro Public Library.  I have always been active in churches aside from my paid experience, singing in choirs and teaching Sunday School. I feel I have been blessed with the gift of a strong faith that I have been living into all of my years.  I strive to let the prophet, Micah's words "do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your God" inform my living.  Work that I see as central to All Saints' mission are developing a strong ministry for social justice, peace and environmental stewardship and a strong emphasis and investment in Christian education for all ages so that we might live our lives as followers of Jesus, not merely believers; transformed not conformed.

Don Holm - Don was born in Sandusky, Ohio and raised in North Olmsted, Ohio.  He earned a BS in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology.  Don opened Candlewick, a retail candle shop, on Newbury St.  Boston in 1967, was an original tenant at Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Boston in 1976. He sold the business to Yankee Candle in 1992.  Don then studied at Boston University to become a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and opened Holm Investment Advisors in Newton, Mass. He sold the business in 2006 to retire to Wolfeboro. Don is married to Gail and has three children and five granddaughters.  In Wolfeboro he served a three year term as president of Wolfeboro Friends of Music and volunteers for Caregivers, Life Ministries Food Pantry and diabetes support at Huggins Hospital. Don currently serves on the Rector Search Committee and served from 2007 to 2009 on the Vestry.  He was co-stewardship chair with Jan Smith in 2009. In his former church in Auburndale Massachusetts, he served on the outreach committee and as chair of the investment committee, chair of the stewardship committee and as Moderator of the Parish Council (similar to Vestry).

"Within the next year, we will be welcoming a new Rector to our church.  Our challenge is to use this event as an opportunity to move forward into a new exciting era in our church history.  I hope that we will be open to new ideas in all areas of our church lives including worship, outreach, hospitality and stewardship."

J. David Knox - I have been a member of All Saints' for forty years and a participant in the church choir for all but the first five of those years. I have previously served on the vestry and look forward to doing so again.  As a current member of the Rector Search Committee I look forward to working on the vestry with our new rector. One of my other contributions to our church has been to attend to the burials in our memorial cemetery.

I believe our outreach program through our new building and all of the activities that we have undertaken regarding that program need to continue. Certainly all the candidates we have interviewed are in agreement with that. As we have moved through our transition period toward a new rector we have become more open to new ideas and have grown because of it. I believe we are about to enter a new, wonderful period in the life of All Saints' Church and I am excited by that.

Dianne Wasmuth - Dianne and Phil had left on their cruise prior to the request for a biography. Its absence is on account of our tardiness in asking, not her lack of response.

CHOIR UPDATE:

Our dedicated choir has begun bi-monthly rehearsals to prepare for our Lenten and Holy Week season, which includes a special musical Sunday on MARCH 30th.  Mark your calendars! In lieu of a spoken sermon, the choir will share anthems, Scripture and poetry as part of our spiritual inspiration and worship that day.

Are there any All Saints parishioners who enjoy singing but cannot commit to singing year-round? Consider participating in several rehearsals and a musical Sunday or two in this upcoming season.  We would welcome you!  Contact me and we can talk!

Each year beginning on February 1, an entire month of events are planned nationwide honoring the history and contributions of African Americans.

In keeping with the nationwide celebration of Black History month, some of the music offered in our All Saints worship services in February will reflect the black gospel style of composition, and a few well-known favorites written and sung by our African American brothers and sisters. Listen for special instrumental renditions of "Amazing Grace", "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot", Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus", and a choral medley that includes "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands".

Blessings in your journey this week,

Holly Simons, Minister of Music
