ECW Annual Meeting

The All Saints' ECW annual meeting was Wednesday, January 29th. Phil Wasmuth stopped by to take a photo of these dedicated and hard working Saints. ECW Chair Prue Fitts had these thoughts on the meeting:

We had a very lively meeting with about 20 ladies there.  Among the topics discussed was how we could further help to the food pantry. Several of us belonged to churches which had the Sunday school bring up the food basket during the service to be blessed which we will try as well as oral announcements about particular items needed.  Its a very proactive energetic group of ladies.

Left to right: Gail Holm, Karen Hargy, Mary Haeger, Sue Harding, Barbara O'Conner, Lorraine Crocker, Christy Parker, Jane Newcomb, Dianne Wasmuth, Marge Morris, Pam Liedtke, Prue Fitts (Chairwoman), Linda Pacheco, Sandi Johnson, Jane Milligan, Pat McLaughlin, Beth Smith, and Louise Graham.

Annual Meeting 2/16

All Saints Annual Meeting will be on Sunday, February 16th. There will be one service at 9 am with brunch and meeting to follow.

Valetine Victorian Tea

Our preschool will be holding the annual Victorian Valentine Tea on Saturday 2/8/14 at 2 pm. Tickets are $10. Tea sandwiches and sweets. Fresh flower bouquet making and Valentine crafts. A lovely decorated setting. Door prizes and raffles. We are also looking for volunteers to help in the kitchen, to serve and to run the dishwasher. Please contact the church office for tickets and information. If you cannot attend, please consider purchasing a raffle ticket for $1 each or 6 for $5. Thank you.

The Bible and Messiah

Hallelujah...the Bible and Handel's Messiah, a course that is being led by Ted and Gina, was started on Tuesday the 28th at 4:00 pm in the Library. Hallelujah explores the scriptural texts of Handel's Messiah from Advent into Easter. Each week we will look at a section of the oratorio score and the scripture passage it quotes. We will discuss the historical contact of it, talk about the way the music enhances the interpretation of it and share our own reflections. It is recommended that all participants purchase the book, Hallelujah...the Bible and Handel's Messiah by Carol Bechtel. If you would like a copy of the book and participate in this class, please contact the church office at 569-3453 or allsaints@metrocast.net.

CHOIR UPDATE:

Our dedicated choir has begun bi-monthly rehearsals to prepare for our Lenten and Holy Week season, which includes a special musical Sunday on MARCH 30th.  Mark your calendars! In lieu of a spoken sermon, the choir will share anthems, Scripture and poetry as part of our spiritual inspiration and worship that day.

Are there any All Saints parishioners who enjoy singing but cannot commit to singing year-round? Consider participating in several rehearsals and a musical Sunday or two in this upcoming season.  We would welcome you!  Contact me and we can talk!

Each year beginning on February 1, an entire month of events are planned nationwide honoring the history and contributions of African Americans.

In keeping with the nationwide celebration of Black History month, some of the music offered in our All Saints  worship services in February will reflect the black gospel style of composition, and a few well-known favorites written and sung by our African American brothers and sisters. Listen for special instrumental renditions of "Amazing Grace", "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot", Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus", and a choral medley that includes "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands".

Listed below are 4 short quotes to ponder this week.  These reminders keep our awareness fresh to the journeys and struggles of others as they seek justice and equality in their earthly lives and communities.

Blessings in your journey this week,

Holly Simons, Minister of Music

Wherever there is a human being, I see God given rights inherent in that being, whatever may be the sex or complexion.

I had no idea that history was being made. I was just tired of giving up.

-Rosa Parks

I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality...I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.

-Martin Luther King, Jr.
