This newsletter is meant to be informative and entertaining and a place where I can update fans on my current and upcoming projects.  As a writer, it takes months to bring a book to completion.  This newsletter is my effort to keep fans, supporters and loved ones informed.   Please share with the people you know who like to read.  If you're a writer, share your blog, website, Facebook and newsletter with me!

Welcome to the Heibel Media Newsletter
September 2015

September is a good bye to summer and hello to fall.  It's also a good bye to slacking off and hello to a renewed commitment to writing stories.  As you'll see, the writing and the revision are slowly progressing and both have sustaineded daily efforts made.  Though my annual goals are going to be very badly missed I've created a realistic work flow with my decreased lack of available time to write.

September brings the first of three appearances I'll be making to promote my books.  More details on that below.  SO check out what I've done in August and doing in September.

Thanks for your support!

Random Passages from My Books

Each month I'm going to give you a sample of my books direct from their pages.
I'll rotate through the books starting with my oldest writings to my newest.

This is one of my favorite scenes from my novel Reunion.  It is the introduction to one of the major characters and opens Chapter 1.

The light snow that had begun falling earlier in the afternoon had picked up strength off Lake Michigan.  Now the fluffy flakes had turned into biting pellets clinking against the windows as the wind whipped and screamed in nearly continuous gusts.  The single glass window panes rattled in their wooden frames.  Through the minute gaps between window and frame, an icy breeze kissed Steve Thorndyke's unshaven cheek and jaw.   He gazed through the blurred window where he had wiped the frost away with the side of his hand.

He knelt on the couch, his knees resting on the thin fabric and foam that didn't keep the inner springs from poking into his kneecaps.   The streetlamp across the street showed the snow sheeting nearly sideways from west to east.

The driveway, which he had so cleanly shoveled at six, was buried again.  Drifts created a ramp up the thigh high snow banks lining the driveway.   The sidewalk out front was drifting over too.  The ruts that had been in the street that city snowplows hadn't bothered to come down today were now filled too.

He had not seen snow like this since he was 12.  Nothing kept him from delivering the Gazette, even that winter.  That had been a bad winter.   He had loved the snow until that winter.  He should have moved south three years ago when he graduated high school and his parents died along with the drunk driver that hit them.   But they had left him the house and he was enrolled at the community college.  His best friend since high school, Doug Kaptein moved in and on to college they went, as they had planned.  What a waste that had been.

The Last Thing I Wrote

I thought it'd be fun to share something I had just written.  You'll get no context just the last 100 words of the last thing I worked on before putting out the newsletter.  This is from book 3 of the Gods' Powers Trilogy  The Magi Harvest.

Dinner came and Reinsen served food while Izaneen cleared empty plates and mugs and platter from tables.  After dinner, they washed tables and chairs and then ate of the leftover food consisting of potatoes, and a handful of shredded beef.

"I would think the King would eat better than this," Reinsen commented while eating.

"He eats what we eat," the old woman replied.  "We see supplies coming in less and less and the King insists that we all eat equally."

"There was a rumor that the city was over run by dark creatures."

"One day, not too long ago, they disappeared.  One night they covered the streets and the next they were gone."

"That why I returned," a homely girl about his age spoke with hesitation.
