Welcome to the Heibel Media Newsletter
July 2015

June was a month of setbacks with minimal work getting done but work is getting done and in July I expect to make headway on the revision of When Love Breaks Down.  The new writing is taking a hit because of a change in my business that is keeping me inordinately busy.

I've learned to take the ups and downs as they're dealt to me and now is a down.

So read on and see what's happening in the creative world of Lawrence Heibel.

Thanks for your support!

 New Feature!

Random Passages from My Books

Each month I'm going to give you a sample of my books direct from their pages.  I'll rotate through the books starting with my oldest writings to my newest.  Here's a bit from the novella Overture to Rain.

His fingers are torn and dirty and blackened with dried blood.  He reaches up and pushes his hands up through the grate in the ceiling.  It is the only place where sunshine, air and soon, rain, will flow.

The wind caresses his fingertips and he grimaces at the pain.  His fingers are stumps at the knuckles.  Calluses, thick and hard cover the tips.  The wind leaves a hint of moisture on his fingertips and he exhales the deep breath he has been holding since he thrust his hands through.  The barely present moisture tickles his fingers.  He begins to sob.

He holds his hands through the grate and lets the breeze flit through his fingertips as the touch of moisture evaporates as soon as it touches his dry skin.  He holds his hands through the grate for the two remaining hours of daylight and then slowly, reluctantly, withdraws them.

"Fingers poking through the grate would be a tasty treat wouldn't they be?"  He says to the rat carcasses on the table.

 NEW FEATURE!
The Last Thing I Wrote

I thought it'd be fun to share something I had just written.  You'll get no context just the last 100 words of the last thing I worked on before putting out the newsletter.  This is from book 3 of the Gods' Powers Trilogy The Magi Harvest.

"The man you seek is a loner who doesn't function well with people so he lives alone and seeks people who are alone," Frynia said.  "He's probably a former soldier to be skilled enough to cut his victims as he has."

"Butchered!"  The same male voice shouted.

"A butcher would be more careful with his cuts.  This man cuts to inflict pain and death," Frynia said.  "Your road blocks are useless.  He comes to the city through the forest game trails and thinks of himself as an animal killing to insure his survival and kills to nourish his beliefs.  He kills individuals because they are a perceived threat, yet not enough to overwhelm him as he overtakes them and kills them."

"How can you know this?"  The lone challenger called out from the crowd.

"Because I'm a killer and understand how a killer thinks," Frynia stated.
