The Wilshire Grand Center Progress

The Conco Companies are doing the structural concrete work for the new Wilshire Grand Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. As part of the project, Conco broke the Guinness World Record by completing the largest, continuous mat pour at the site.

Fresno-Clovis Regional Wastewater Reclamation Facility, Tertiary Treatment and Disinfection Facility

W.M. Lyles Co. began work on the Fresno-Clovis Regional Wastewater Reclamation Facility, Tertiary Treatment and Disinfection Facility in December 2014.  The $28 million dollar, 19 month project consists of adding a 5 MGD tertiary treatment facility to the City's existing wastewater treatment plant.

Gerald Desmond Bridge in Long Beach

The replacement bridge was approved in 2010. In 2012, the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners approved Port of Long Beach staff's recommendation that the "best value" design-build proposal to replace the Gerald Desmond Bridge was submitted by the joint venture team of Shimmick Construction Company Inc., FCC Construction S.A. and Impregilo S.p.A. Major participants in the joint venture include Shimmick Construction Company Inc., FCC Construction S.A., Impregilo S.p.A., Arup North America Ltd. and Biggs Cardosa Associates Inc.

Major changes coming to California electricity rates

The California Public Utilities Commission could soon ask Southern California Edison and other utility companies to start designing "time-of-use" residential electricity rates, to take effect in 2019. The rates would make electricity more expensive when demand is high, and less expensive when demand is low.

New Construction Starts Up 10% in April.
Through the first four months of 2015, construction starts are up 24% compared to the same period in 2014

The value of new construction starts in April increased 10 percent from the previous month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $698.7 billion, according to Dodge Data & Analytics.

PIPELINE THAT LEAKED WASN'T EQUIPPED WITH AUTO SHUT-OFF.

The pipeline that leaked thousands of gallons of oil on the California coast was the only pipe of its kind in the county not required to have an automatic shut-off valve because of a court fight nearly three decades ago, a county official said.

Long Beach approves cement terminal expansion

 The Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners on Friday approved the Mitsubishi Cement Facility Modification Project, greenlighting the addition of 40,000 metric tons of additional storage capacity and loading silos on vacant port property adjacent to Mitsubishi's existing facility at the Port's Pier F.
