Guiness World Record-Setting Pour

What's so special about pouring a bunch of concrete? Usually nothing, but this pouring for the Wilshire Grand holds the new record for longest continuous pour, was kicked off by the USC marching band, and with all those trucks criss-crossing through downtown, looked like something from the set of a heist movie set in the future.
With marching bands and dignitaries, at 5 p.m. Saturday, more than 200 trucks began delivering concrete in downtown L.A. for the world-record continuous pour as Turner and Conco start to build what promises to be the tallest structure west of the Mississippi.

Turner crews set a record Sunday by laying 21,200 cu yd of concrete continuously into a massive downtown Los Angeles construction site on Sunday for the tallest building west of Chicago .

Termites can build huge, elaborate mounds that rise up from the ground like insect skyscrapers; scientists have now created little robots that act like termites to build a made-to-order structure.

"Termites are the real masters of construction in the insect world," says of the Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University. "The largest termite mound on record was 42 feet tall."
