DID YOU KNOW?That the State of California has had an official 20 x 2020 Water Conservation Plan since 2010? And that the plan is designed to significantly reduce statewide water use by the year 2020? Well, it is true. This plan calls on all state agencies and California water utilities (the folks that sell us our urban water) in particular, to work together to cut per capita urban water use 10 percent by 2015 and 20 percent by the end of 2020.

Will The Construction Industry
Be A Victim Of The Fiscal Cliff?
Despite admitting he's sometimes labeled "Dr. Doom," Ed Sullivan, vice president and chief economist for the Portland Cement Association (PCA), had some positive things to say about the construction economy - with caveats - while addressing attendees of theAssociated Equipment Distributors Executive Forum, September 6-7 in Rosemont, IL. He started by indicating that construction activity has grown 5.8% during the first half of 2012.

Strange Facts and Useless Information
Sound travels 15 times faster through steel than through the air.
If you went out into space, you would explode before you suffocated because there's no air pressure.
Portland cement is used for underwater work. It hardens because of a chemical reaction it has with the water, not because the water mixed with it evaporates. The amount of water that reacts with the cement is crucial for this process, and the physical structure of this cement enables it to control exactly how much water gets into the reaction. So it doesn't matter at all how much water surrounds the cement as long as it has enough to set.

The Definition of Politics
A little boy goes to his dad and asks, "What is politics?"
Dad says, "Well son, let me try to explain it this way: I'm the breadwinner of the family, so let's call me capitalism. Your Mom, she's the administrator of the money, so we'll call her the government. We're here to take care of your needs, so we'll call you the people. The nanny, we'll consider her the working class. And, your baby brother, we'll call him the future. Now, think about that and see if that makes sense,"
So the little boy goes off to bed thinking about what dad had said. Later that night, he hears his baby brother crying, so he gets up to check on him. He finds that the baby has severely soiled his diaper.
So the little boy goes to his parents' room and finds his mother sound asleep. Not wanting to wake her, he goes to the nanny's room. Finding the door locked, he peeks in the keyhole and sees his father in bed with the nanny.
He gives up and goes back to bed. The next morning, the little boy says to his father, "Dad, I think I understand the concept of politics now."
The father says, "Good son, tell me in your own words what you think politics is all about."
The little boy replies, "Well, while Capitalism is screwing the Working Class, the Government is sound asleep, the People are being ignored and the Future is in deep Doo-Doo."
