ACT NOW
Broadband Demand Survey

Your urgent action is needed in encouraging area residents and business to respond to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin's (PSC) Broadband Demand Survey. Enclosed you will find the electronic versions of information you may have recently received by hard copy relating to this initiative.

The PSC, in cooperation with LinkWISCONSIN, has developed a broadband demand survey that is intended to provide a detailed picture of speeds, availability and access to broadband in Wisconsin with the ultimate goal of working with internet service providers (ISPs) to provide access in areas of the state that are identified as being unserved and underserved.

The deadline for completing the survey

is August 15.

Consider the following statistics:

  • 80% of Fortune 500 companies require applicants to apply online.
  • 74% of economic development professionals believe access to high speed Internet would have an impact on their ability to attract business.
  • 76% of economic development professionals believe access to broadband was needed to effectively attract new businesses.

The PSC has requested assistance in disseminating their broadband demand survey to residents and businesses statewide. Participation by these groups is critical in order to develop a reliable map of the state's broadband infrastructure as a means to identify underserved and unserved areas of the state.

The more responses gathered, the more complete and accurate the data will be.  Responses will be (1) used to identify areas where service is adequate or inadequate and to identify areas where demand is unmet for high-speed internet service; and (2) compiled in order to assist the PSC in communicating community broadband needs to ISPs.

In order to ensure the most accurate data on broadband proliferation in Wisconsin, broad statewide participation is essential. Below you will find a link to the online, print and Spanish versions of the business and residential surveys, as well as a Tool Kit for sending media releases, creating flyers and developing other informational materials.

As we work to generate job growth and improve the quality of life in Wisconsin, we hope you will consider including links to the survey in your newsletters, on your Facebook pages and will also forward the links to local business groups, economic development professionals and others with whom you may have a relationship.
