Toronto's Real Estate Market Returns to Balance

October 2012

Michelle Brienza
Toronto's real estate market appears to be returning to a more balanced state, and many point to the latest government mortgage rule changes as the catalyst. You'll find an article below that analyzes the latest numbers from the Toronto Real Estate Board and on the lighter side, some places to get last minute Halloween costumes and some ideas for kitchen renovation.

I'd like to bring your attention to a silent auction fundraiser I'm participating in on October 26th for a very special boy named Julian. He was diagnosed with autism at the age of two and the one form of therapy that's worked for him is very expensive. On Friday October 26th, I will be volunteering at a Vegas Themed Night to raise money for this treatment. It will include live entertainment, food stations, slots and casino tables. The evening will also offer spectacular prizes, including airfare to a private villa in Costa Rica, a weekend in New York, a one week stay in Sherkston Cottages and much more! The BMO economist was referring today to the Toronto Real Estate Board's latest numbers, released yesterday and which showed residential real estate sales plunging 21 per cent in September from a year earlier, though you've got to factor in two more business days a year ago.

How have home prices changed in your Toronto neighbourhood?

It's always interesting to see where home prices are going from one neighbourhood to the next.  Keep in mind that fewer sales can result in skewed results. For instance, the article points out that the average price in Alexandra Park has gone down by 28%. Condos in this neighbourhood are generally under $400,000 and homes over $740,000. There are many more condos for sale than homes, so it brings the average down if more condos sell than homes.

Dishy lessons from the best kitchens

MB Digital Communications

Kitchens are almost certainly the best renovation investment in any home. What homeowner doesn't want an ultimate dream kitchen? Achieving the perfect culinary space isn't impossible, but you do need to plan and clearly understand your needs before you start. Since we all seem to live for the feeling of instant gratification, we often forego our due diligence.
