Mr. Bill - Tampa Bay Lightning Community HERO! |

Tampa Bay Lightning honored Bill Johnson as the 26th Lightning Community Hero of the year during the first period of last night's game against the Buffalo Sabres. Johnson, who received a $50,000 donation from the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program, will donate the money to Girls Inc.
Johnson, a former Pinellas County business owner and parent of two daughters, volunteers a lot of his spare time at Girls Inc., an organization that inspires girls to be strong, smart and bold through life-changing programs. As a mentor and personal coach, Johnson makes sure that female youth learn the proper life skills necessary to lead them down the right path of life by supporting and teaching them. He uses curriculum and resources from Girls Inc. to ensure girls safety and contributes to an overall effort that promotes academic success as well as healthy and active lifestyles.
Reflecting on his 40 years of business, Johnson hasn't forgotten the help that he received along the way, compelling himself to return the favor by sharing his wisdom and time. He teaches female youth by sharing his own stories and business acumen, as well as promoting positive work habits. While volunteering at Girls Inc., Johnson also spends time coaching sports and teaching them different life skills. |

Ticket sales are well under way for the 25th Annual Celebration luncheon benefitting Girls Incorporated of Sarasota County. The luncheon, which is held at the Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota, April 4th is being sponsored by JCI Jones Chemicals, Inc. and will honor 13 year-old "Girl of the Year" Zandy Sanders. The "She Knows Where She's Going" Award is being presented to The Observer Media Group Executive Editor Lisa Walsh. This honor is presented to one outstanding woman for her contribution to the community and her superlative personal and professional achievements.
Lisa truly represents the strong, smart and bold characteristics of a 'She Knows Where She's Going' honoree," says Kay Mathers, Interim Executive Director. "From her work in the community, to her strong business leadership, to her continued work with Girls Inc., she is an advocate and an important part of Sarasota. We are so proud to call her a member of the Girls Inc. family."
This year's Celebration Luncheon is being co-chaired by Johanna Gustafsson and Chris Pinckney. The luncheon will feature a retrospective of all the past honorees, which includes Walsh's daughter, Emily, who was honored in 2006 (the two make up the first mother-daughter honorees). The luncheon will also feature the "Power of the Girls" showcasing the award winning programs of Girls Inc. namely MicroSociety. WSSB Girl TV welcomes new team members Arianna, Fiona, and Siobhan. The entire team extends a special thank you to the Schoenbaum Family Foundation, Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice Gulf Coast Gives campaign, and an anonymous donor. The team is using brand new camera equipment. Now the girls can hear during filming what the camera is hearing, eliminating reshoots due to sound problems that were only being found during editing. In addition, the new cameras use memory cards instead of tape, reducing the data transfer time by 50% between the camera and the editing computer. You can see the girls and their new equipment in action at the 2013 Celebration Luncheon on April 4. |
