Getting ready for Health Insurance in 2016

I hope you are enjoying a relaxing holiday season with your family and friends.

Many Californians have either changed their existing insurance coverage or enrolled for new health insurance in December for an effective date of January 1st 2016.

For people enrolled via Covered California:( New Enrollees or Plan Changes)

Payments have to be placed on December 28th in order to secure an effective date of January 01 2016. In case you have not yet made a payment, please contact your insurance directly and pay via telephone. The insurance carrier can retrieve your id via social security Number birthday.

For people enrolled Out side the exchange:( New Enrollees or Plan Changes):

Please check your bank or credit card account and see if the insurance carrier has deducted your premium for January in case that did not happen.

For people carrying the same health plan for 2016, please check in the first two weeks, if your payment has been drawn from your bank or credit card in case that will not happen, please contact your insurance carrier.

Remember you only have until January 31th to make any changes to your policy both inside and outside the exchange, otherwise you need to keep your current plan for the remainder of 2016.

In comparison to 2016, the tax penalty for not carrying health insurance will be higher. For 2016 It will be roughly 2.5 % of your income or $ 695 per adult and $ 347.50 per child, whichever figure is higher.
