 This month Covered California, our state health insurance exchange announced the preliminary health insurance rates for 2016 and for Los Angeles the average rate increase of 2.5 % overall is low.   California wide the average health insurance premium increase is 4% , whereby the largest increases are in the rural Northern California areas.
Great News for all Angelenos. Anthem will go back to a PPO and actually will decrease their rates for 2016 in Los Angeles. In contrast Blue Shield  will increase their rates in the Bronze, Gold & Platinum level and will keep their rates relative stable in the Silver tier level. Kaiser's Los Angeles rates( Region 16)  will increase approx. $ 12.00 per metal tier, so overall very manageable.There will be a new technology driven insurance carrier called Oscar based out of New York offering in Los Angeles an EPO and is contracted with the Providence Hospitals. Their rates are even lower than Kaiser's rates. After the recent insurance mergers to have a new insurance carrier coming to the Los Angeles market is welcome news.  
The federal subsidies will be similar to the amounts of 2015. The rates will be loaded in the Covered CA system in August. Remember November 1st starts the open Enrollment Period and you can than switch health plans . 
I will contact all my clients in the upcoming weeks to see if it makes sense to stay or switch carriers.

Getting Ready for the Annual Enrollment Period for Medicare Advantage and RX Plans & the Open Enrollment Period for Medical Insurance for 2016
Agents are getting ready for all the required recertification of your Medicare Advantage and Rx Plans for 2016.

Seniors, please note on your calendars the Annual Enrollment Period for 2016, is from October 15 to December 7th 2015, should you wish to make changes to your current plans.


For Individuals under 65 years. Please mark your calendars, as well. The Open Enrollment Period for medical health plans is November 1 2015 to January 31 2016. In this time period you can make changes to your existing plan without having any medical underwriting and you will be able to change insurance carriers. Once the final rates and networks are published, both in and outside the exchanges, I will contact all my existing clients to determine which plan best fits their health needs for 2016.
